    Cam sensor being wierd.

Really scratching my head on this one. Keep getting some random cam sensor codes. "Camshaft over advanced", "Camshaft A slow to respond" "Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction" Most of the times it's intermittent, but sometimes it sets off a CEL. Car will then stumble off the line, especially in traffic in 2nd gear just tapping the throttle. EPC light flashed and the motor misfires between 1500 and 2000 RPM. Turn the car off, clear the code, restart, and everything is fine again. I did the timing service last year, and replaced the cam sensor a few months back. Shop tried telling me the harness was loose, it's not loose. Double and triple checked that. Did some data logging on my obdelevn the other day watching timing values at idle, off idle, and a medium pull form 2nd to 3rd (I'll post pics). Read in the forums that other guys were having this problem, but didn't see any solution to it. So here we are......

    Idle

    Off Idle

My local shop told me when I brought in my 2011 a4 last week with a “camshaft correlation bank 1 sensor a” fault and other related codes are usually a timing chain issue.

Hope yours didn’t stretch or jump !

I bent all 16 valves :( with no sounds or real warning signs. Just misfired twice, shut it off and wouldnt start after.

Here's another possibility: the cable for the cam position sensor comes up from under the intake manifold near the front, and connects to the sensor which on the side of the head cover near the PCV valve. When I took the intake off recently to do the water pump on my car, I found the wires seriously damaged:

It looks like the damage came from the wires rubbing on the side of the head cover.

It really shocked me (pun intended) because the car ran perfectly and wasn't throwing any codes. But I think it was only a matter of time before this caused a problem.

    Location of camshaft position sensor

I'm trying to replace the CMP. Can any of you by chance send me a pic of where the camshaft position sensor is. I have a 2009 Audi A4 b8 and I cant find it anywhere. I looked under the timing cover. And I looked on the cylinder head in the front on the right hand side and to no avail.

It's on the head cover, above the intake manifold, between the cylinders #2 and #3 runners:

Can anyone send me a pic of where the camshaft position sensor is located? I got a P0341 error code that said Bank 1 or single sensor CMP needs replacing. I have a 2009 Audi A4 B8. I looked under the timing cover and on the cylinder head. Any pic with location of where it is would be great. Was told super easy to install, but couldn't find any info at parts store, or online. On verge of putting in the shop to have them install but trying to save a couple bucks.

Did you see my post just above yours? If you have a CAEB engine it should be the same.

I've never actually changed the sensor but it does look super-easy... it's very accessible and is held in with just one screw.

But check the wiring going to it also, on my car the wire was really chewed up and probably intermittently shorting to the head cover.

Yes I got your picture, but the cmp I got from the auto part store looks different. Here is a picture of the part I got and a picture of my engine of where I think you are saying the cmp belongs at. In the picture I sent I circled on my engine where i think you are saying the cmp is, however the part I got from the store does not look like the same part on my engine. Please confirm.

It's possible that could work but you're right, it's not exactly like the OE part.

Here are several different brands of sensor for sale by ECS tuning, if you look at the pix they're much more like what's on the car: https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B8_A4...haft_Position/

Thank you, man it was so frustrating trying to find it because I was looking for a sensor that looks like this after market sensor. I just ordered the OE from ECS. Again. Thank you.
