    Inner fender well liner.

Does the b8.5 S4 inner fender wells not come lined with sound deadening padding? My 2011 BMW 328i had a carpet material in the fender wells, that masked the sound of rocks and debris. I could have sworn when I was cross shopping the A4 back in 2011, it also had fabric in the wheel wells. However, my 2014 S4 has a hard plastic liner that is rather noisy when the tires kick up small rocks. Did Audi skimp out on this form of sound deadening on the B8 S4, or should I be worried that the carpet was removed from my used S4, due to some unknown issues?

I think they changed them because the B8 liners get shredded. I’ve had to replace both of mine and I’m on stock suspension.

Were the replacement liners fabric or did Audi come up with a new plastic version for the B8's? My passenger side liner is all tore up.

Still the fabric material. Got the first on from ECS and the second from Amazon because ECS didn’t have it in stock. I asked ECS a while back if the 8.5 would fit the 8 and they said they would not there were differences when they compared them side by side.

In that case, I’d say the previous owner of my S4 ripped them off after years of wear, and didn’t bother replacing them.

So I checked them out on ECS. The rear fender liners are exactly the same on both sides for the B8 and B8.5 S4. They are constructed out of that hard carpet material. However, the front liners are different for the B8 and B8.5. Both sides on the front liners for the B8, are made out of the hard carpet material. They only sell a hard plastic liner for the B8.5’s front right fender. For the B8.5’s front left fender, they have an option of a hard carpet liner (for non-hot country vehicles), and a hard plastic liner (for hot country vehicles). Weird...

Upon further inspection of my S4, I’ve realized that my fenders do have liners. Plastic in the fronts. Carpet in the backs. My liners are in good shape. I suppose the carpet they use is just louder than the liners that BMW uses, because my 328i was quiet, whereas I can hear ever pebble banging into the rear fender wells in the S4, even with the padding.

I did a front end conversion on my B8 to a B8.5 after getting into an accident. The fenders and liners are different on the front between the B8 and B8.5. Like you said, the B8.5 has plastic liners up front and fabric in the rear. B8 had fabric ones all around and my front ones got shredded during the winters. Frist thing I noticed or heard while driving after doing the conversion was more road noise up front from the new plastic liners.

I suppose a little road noise is worth the payoff of not dealing with protective liners that excessively wear. They’re not exactly cheap to replace year after year.

The B8.5 S4 does have them. One of mine were actually shredded when a rear tire blew out. It was ~$130 for one to be replaced at the dealer.

I remember seeing them on ECS if you wanted to DIY it.

They are really not hard to change at all. Just sucks, on the B8 especially, that they get torn up so easily.
