    Any RNS-D experts around?

I have a unit I picked up a while ago and now that I am attempting to use it I am running into issues.

Can anyone confirm if this screen means the unit is locked? It doesn't respond at all when I attempt to enter a PIN.
If it is locked can it be reset somehow (older radios could be left powered on for 1 HR)?

I left the unit on for 1hr today and it reset so I can now attempt to enter the PIN.
The problem I ran into is the unit said the PIN I got from Audi is incorrect.

I am wondering if my wiring is not providing the correct signal on Pin 5 (SAFE) in Connector 3 (at the top in pic).
Anyone know what Signal is supposed to be on this Pin?

Found out through other posts that SAFE pin needed constant 12V for the unit to work properly.
With the unit wired correctly I had no issues entering the PIN to take the unit out of SAFE mode.

Now to figure out if there are still Navigation discs available for this system.

    Hi Mike

Dragging up an old thread here but I see you’re still active and I’ve a few question as I’m differing the same issue in my C5 RS6.

Did you retro fit the RNS-D into another car? I kind of got the feeling you did from your first post.

Mine is the OEM stereo for my car that required the code input after the car battery was changed. Like you my stereo is saying that it’s not the right code but this has been double checked and proven to be the code from the stereos serial code.

    Chris,

I did temporarily hook the unit up in an older Audi A6. The key for me was to make sure there was 12V power on the SAFE pin.
Without 12V there the unit would not let me put in any code at all.

Maybe you have a blown fuse or something?

On a side note, I never did install the unit as I did not have the heart to cut up the front bezel.

Oh, I see. So it doesn’t sound like we have the same issue then as I can put in a code, it just doesn’t believe that it’s the correct code. Bugger. 🤯

Thanks for getting back to me mate. 👍

So I originally posted cause the unit was locked. After being left on for an hour it reset and let me enter a code.

With no Power at the SAFE pin, It would not accept the correct code. After I temporarily connected 12V to the SAFE pin, the unit took the code and let me in.

Just done a voltage check and I’m getting 3.2v from pin 5.
I have got 12v from UB+. Could I put a link between those connections to see if it solves the issue or should I be looking for an independent supply?

I’m pleased to say that I finally got to the bottom of my issue and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without your info regarding the 12v across the SAFE pin.

After finding I only had 3v I decided to go fault finding along the line. It turns out on the Audi A6 there’s a joint connector under the passenger seat, an area that is know to get damp if the drain holes under the scuttle are looked after.
I moved my seat far enough forward to be able to lift the carpet around the runner near the driveshaft tunnel and take a look at the cable. I noticed the signs of copper cable corrosion and decided that I needed to remove the seat for a better look.
I found that a 7 cable joint had all but failed and cut and replaced the joint.
Once this was done I found I had 12v across the SAFE pin and my head unit now accepted my unlock code.

So thank you ever so much Mike. Without your post I’m not sure I would have ever gotten to the end of this. (I wish I could add the pictures for you so others could use my info if needed)
