    Help after TCM replacement

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello all, I just completed swapping out my TCM on my mechatronics unit due to a broken connector (by me when removing the mechatronics unit). With everything reinstalled, the TCM is now unreachable via vagcom, parking brake malfunction is illuminated, TPMS malfunction is showing, and the car will not attempt to start and says to "place car in N or P to start" although the car is in park. I have cleaned the connections and tried to reach the TCM again with no luck. Anyone ever have similar issues? I searched but have had no luck with this issue. It is a used TCM but has the same part number and version.

no same happen to you too! Its okay happen to me and three others during their own DIY. Hate that stupid connector. Only way and trust me when I say this, you have yo tow it to the dealer and have them reprogram the TCU/TCM. Only Audi has the authorization to do such a task. I talked to tons of Indy shops and they all said the same. Here in Santa Barbara, CA they charged me 350. I was frustrated since its only a one hour labor job! If you have a tune on it then it will clear it! The car returns to stock programming.

Thank you! That is exactly what happened to mine. I did not notice the additional connector in the DIY I followed. It was so easy to remove, I kicked myself for not looking more thoroughly. Would your car not start after you replaced it either? I want to make sure this TCM isn't defective since I got it used.

Did you check first to make sure it matched your transmission code? If not LC won't work anymore

I did, I did not swap the entire mechatronic unit, only the TCM. The original and the TCU I swapped are both part# 0B5 927 256 B, hardware number 0B5 927 156 F, hardware version H10. But thank you for the insight. My launch control was having issues prior to swapping the TCU which is why I was installing the repair kit to hopefully cure this issue. The car would not release LC for several seconds with the 4k rpm tune, and when I switched to the 3k tune it still had issues but not as severe of a "2-step" like delay. EPL suggested this may be signs of mechatronic failure so I wanted to try the repair kit first.

My car would start but just wouldn't engage any gears and gave me the exact codes you got. For others it also started right up so you may have a different issue on your hands.

Okay thank you, I'm leaning towards this used TCU being defective.

Does anyone know where to find a new or remanufactured TCU? I have had no luck finding any aside from 1 or 2 used from China on Ebay.

I hooked it up via vagcom and pulled codes 6088, 01315, 00473, and 01200. I disconnected, cleaned, and reconnected everything, and am still not able to reach the 02 trans section via vagcom. Any insight? Seems like its pointing to a bad remanufactured TCM . I understand it needs to be unlocked/programmed but it isnt even reachable currently.

Resurrecting this thread from the dead. So even if you swap out TCM yourself, you still need to get it reprogrammed by the dealer?
My car currently wont start and took it to a shop that specialize in European cars and their stating its my TCM and it will be $2000+ for parts and labor! If I can avoid that cost it'll be amazing lol

Hey, was this issue resolved? I did the same thing and broke the TCU pulling out the mech unit. Got one on eBay that matched the serial number, put it all back together, and brought it to the dealer. They said the transmission was unreachable. I’m guessing the EBay TCU is the culprit here, but I’d love to have some certainty before I spend $3k on a full re-manned mech unit.

    Anything further on this?

Cable tore when my mechanic was installing the mech repair kit.

A lot of trouble finding one. But even if he does, is it doomed?

Any shop with an ODIS subscription/hardware can program the module. We do them all the time(remotely) with a company called Autoland. I believe Autologic can also program remotely as well with Audi, but yes, it's still using Odis(dealer software), just remotely connected to the car. A "work on anything" type shop won't mess with it but a Euro specific shop should help you avoid the dealer and save you a few bucks.
