    P00b7 engine coolant flow low

This p00b7 code came up on my A3 8v 1.8 the other day so I cleared the code and thought maybe it was a random code. Came home from work parked it and the car sat for about an hr. Went out to go the the store and got the same code right after start up and the temp gauge was almost to the high mark. Grabbed my vagcom and the coolant temp was at 72c so it wasn’t over heating ? Shut down the car and restarted immediately, code went away by itself and the temp gauge was at normal. Any thoughts? Possible bad thermostat or bad sensor ? I’m no a mechanic but if it was the water pump then wouldn’t the car be overheating right after the second start up ? Car has been on idle now for 15min with vagcom plugged in with no sign of overheating. Coolant level in the tank is just below the M mark.

Update: car is still on idle and temp is staying between 107 - 108 c and the temp gauge is at half

Take it to Walter's Audi if it's under warranty. Ask them to do a pressure test. Chances are, they'll just top it off, but at least it will be documented that you had an issue now, so if it happens again in the future, you'll have a better chance of getting the issue fixed under warranty. The water pump is a common issue on these cars.

Thanks. Unfortunately warranty expired. Got 60k on the clock. Think I’ll top off the coolant wait and see if it comes back and if that doesn’t work change out the coolant sensor and do a coolant flush while I’m at it and if that doesn’t work then I’ll drop the big money on a new pump

It's the thermostat/water pump. They are one unit. I had mine replaced in my A3 and I just had it replaced in my S3. You will never see any fluid leaking. Mine is parked in my garage at home and at work. Seems to be a known issue. Audi mechanic said the factory ones had a pin hole leak. They are plastic and the new ones are metal. Problem solved. I have no idea how much to replace as both of mine were done under warranty. The part is Thermostat Unit - Audi (06L-121-111-J). It costs $146.32. I hope that helps.

Thanks aem. Just ordered a new thermostat and coolant from fcpeuro. I fell like I’m pretty mechanically inclined to do a diy on this. Anybody know where the thermostat is located on the 1.8 gen3 ?

I have a 2016 A6 Quattro 2.0 received a CIL, scanned and retrieved code P00B7. Dealer diagnostic found a leak from the thermostat and will not cover it under the extended warranty on the water pump. Having the water pump and thermostat replaced now from a reputable specialized Audi mechanic.

I just got priced $2000 to fix my p2681 and p00B7 fault codes which is the thermostat etc that's alot of money for just a thermostat. Mechanic tried to say the thermostat water pump housing cost $700 but ecs tuning has it going for $285 so I'm lost on why the mechanic wanted to charge so much. Oh and the mechanic will only get the parts through his people he won't install any parts that I come across wether cheaper or more expensive

The thermostat and water pump require the intake manifold to come off....

I would go to a different shop...get a better quote cause that shop is going to rip you off...IMO

From your other post, sounds like you're in LF and your "Audi" appointment is way out there, I think I know which dealer you're referring to. I would not use that dealer if I were you - I just had my 50k AudiCare serviced there, which is essentially just an oil change and "some" inspections and they had my car for over a week and it took me over 3 weeks to get an appointment! They were very unresponsive when you try to call them - 90% of my calls went to voicemail without a returned call...very frustrating experience. I would recommend venturing further north to SouthCoast Audi, which is much better, IMHO.
