Is the RS4 the only V8 Manual AWD Sedan? Ever?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was talking with a friend and neither of us could think of any car that checks off the same boxes. V8. Manual. AWD. Sedan.

Can anyone think of anything? Bragging rights will be awarded

Chrysler 300, Infiniti Q70, Bentley flying spur, Volkswagen phaeton, Volvo S80 - google shall reveal all!

Edit: Manual... missed that bit. I shall take this as a fail ;) There may be a Cadillac in there. Holden/HSV made a few AWD V8 manual cars but funnily only seem to be in wagon, Ute and coupe form - not sedan.

Right! The Holdens came up, but there doesn't seem to be a sedan like you said. The older CTS-V's were all rwd, not sure about the new ones, and they may have taken the manual away.

The RS4 is and will likely stay the only manual, AWD, N/A, V8, widebody, 4 door, 8k RPM car every offered.

Add enough modifiers and any car becomes rare and exclusive.

They did not, though I wish they did. Especially those wagons!

To answer your question OP... yes. I believe it is the only one in the US with the exception of other Audis. Rare bird and best combo in relative luxury that you can get, imo.

I can't think of any car in the world let alone in the US that is configured like our RS4's (and B6-B7 S4's).

I also have wagonlust, but I traded my RS4 for a buddy's CTS-V wagon a few years ago and although the car was a beast, I wasn't impressed with the wagon ... the 'trunk' with the back seats up looked like you could get a couple tennis rackets and a sack of potato's in it, maybe. Maybe the newer CTS-V's are better, but do they offer a wagon option with the latest gen?

Also, great thread on the question posed by the OP!

Yeah but it'll rip your face off and they look the business. The practicality argument is however, valid.

Oh, and no ctsv new-gen wagon.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the E63 wagon is getting awfully lonely in its class... albeit im a huge fan

Haha I come back from work and see all these people thinking!

It really shows how special our cars are, like you guys said, there really isn't anything else like them. We were STUMPED trying to think of a similar setup in another car.

    Audi V8 (4C) sold from 1988 to 1994 had a 3.6L or 4.2L V8 with a 5 or 6 speed manual.

    D2 S8 was available with a 335hp to 360hp 4.2L V8 and manual.

    C4 S6 Plus had a 6MT and 4.2 V8.

    C5 S6 also had a 6MT and a 4.2 V8.

Also the previously mentioned B6/7 S4.

Audi had a long history of manual transmission, AWD, V8 sedans. The B7 RS4 was the last of these.

The B7 S4 also checks those boxes, but yes, it's a rare configuration and one we'll likely never see again.

I've done this exercise before when looking for my "fun" car, but relaxed the "AWD" requirement. Still a very limited number of V8 manual sedans out there. Off the top of my head: E90 M3, B7 RS4, B7 S4, E39 M5, 1st and 2nd gen CTS-V, Pontiac G8 GXP, Chevy SS.

Great list of fun cars and probably as close as you could get to B7 RS4, I'd add e60 M5 was offered in 6mt, not a V8 but even better V10 lol

I believe that the first gen Porsche Cayenne GTS came with a 405hp v8 / 6 speed manual / AWD configuration.
