    Waterpump Replacement Cost?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Audi just called, they are doing the piston/ring replacement on a 2011 2.0t A4. They said the water pump is showing signs of leaking which I had no problems before. Anyway while its apart they are saying I should replace it. $1,000 wtf? They said its normally $1,400. Are they jacking me?

I would tell your SA that if the tech doing the engine job can't swap a pump with the engine out in 30 min, then you want a trained tech, not the car wash guy they seem to have assigned.

They are most definitely trying to power fist you, the engine is out and disassembled all the stuff they will charge you for ( labor wise ) has already been removed ( intake mani, etc) . It’s a pure scam, chances are if the dealership is shady enough to try thisthey eont even replace it since you won’t be able to see if it’s new or not after they reinstall the engine. Just my 2 cents

They're likely just trying to make a profit on the piston job. Your waterpump may very well be due for replacement depending on your mileage, but like said above it should be pretty easy for a technician to do that while the engine is out. You should pay for parts and maybe 30 minutes of labor. The pump itself can run you $200 or more from the dealer (can be found for cheaper online).

Think of it this way: the piston work will be reimbursed fully by Audi. If they sell you on a $1000 waterpump, nearly all of that money goes directly to the service department's bottom line.

Ask them if they can do it for parts + 30 min because that's all it's worth.

They’re jacking you my guy, I have the exact same car and everything. When they did my piston job they said the same thing but they said i will only have to pay for the part. So I only payed like $412 and that’s with tax

At this point I dont think there is any benefit to having the dealer replace the water pump. When the engine repair is done take it to a reputable Audi specialist and have them look for “signs of leaking.” If it is leaking go ahead from there.

$1400?! I would have laughed at the guy.

Call another dealer not associated with the one you are at and ask them the price to change a water pump on a 2011 a4. I'd even do it on speakerphone with the service manager, then ask him why they are charging so much more when 95% of the labor is already done. After that I'd call AoA and tell them what's going on.

Dealerships ripping unsuspecting people off like this is complete BS and it needs to be dealt with.

Even the guys saying they paid $450-$500 to replace the water pump in the same situation got screwed just not nearly as bad. Should be $75 in labor plus the part cost. Roughly $300 plus tax.

I love getting quotes from dealership service departments because they're always good for a laugh. When I tell them I can do it for a fraction of what they charge they always say that they use genuine OEM parts. That's when I look them in the eye and inform them that it was a genuine OEM part that failed. Of course, I wouldn't use anything other than OEM parts, but they don't have much to say after that.

I believe I paid 800 total for my water pump at a local shop. They did the job with the engine still in the car and intake manifold attached.

LOL, best line of the day. "It was an OEM part that failed" can't wait to use that!
