Continental DWS06 are highly regarded. All I can say is they are much better in snow than the garbage OEM Pirelli's.

I recently purchased an S4 with these on. I have not driven in deep snow yet but I have read some negative feedback from members here.

    I have Michelin A/S 3+ on S4 and Conti DWS 06 on C300.

DWS 06 is very good in snow and pretty good in summer time. C300 has no problem in CT winter as long as tread depth was ok.

A/S 3+ was great til we got snow and temp dropped below 30.
interior and license plate LED lights, E-code headlights with 6000k bulbs, AWE catback, H&R OE springs, APR Stage 2, 19" BBS RGR (summer), stock 18" with 15mm and 20mm spacers (winter), carbonio intake, lots of VAG mods, 35% tints all around, lots of road rash, 034 transmission mount insert, SPC ACS, Spulen rear diff mount, Bilstein sport shocks, CR-15 strut brace bar

I don't have them (yet). They are generally regarded as the best all season tire. The newest version is much improved in the snow.

I have the DWS06 as my winter tires, they're great. I'm in NJ so we get snow but not as bad as in new england, so they're more than capable for that. Much better than the pirelli P7s that came on the car. And they're a performance oriented all season, so when it's in the 40s during the day they still perform well and don't lose tread as quickly as real snow tires can.
I've heard the michelin a/s 3s have a lot of road noise and some vibration, but I haven't tried them myself so I'm just going off tirerack reviews.

I just bought a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 for my C5 Allroad. I'll be having them mounted next week so can't give you any feedback yet. Anxious to see how they perform and wear. I thought these might be better than the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ in snow.

Although they can’t be a dedicated winter tire here in Colorado, they get the job done.

IMO There is no such thing as a good all season tire...All Season = No season

The compounds, tread depth, and temperature differentials required for different seasons make it impossible to make a good all season.

Maybe if you have super mild winters and want a shitty tire for all seasons?

There is a reason that places with actual winter conditions require "winter" not all season tires by law (Quebec, Scandinavia)

Just my experience with serious winters/summers in my area.

Can you post up those wheels on your car when you mount them? I like.

Also, DWS06. You can research Michelin A/S 3+ though. They scored higher in three tires shootout from Tire Rack. I like DWS06 because Michelin is hard to find where I live for cheap. It's at least $60 more a tire here.

I have the Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ tires on my car. I haven't driven in any snow with them so I can't comment on their all weather capability, but they perform well otherwise (summer, rain etc.). What I DON'T like about them is that they are very noisy. So noisy in fact that I'll be switching to the Continental DWS06 when I decide I can't put up with it any longer.

It is tough here with when to swap winter/summer tires. So many dry and warm days eating up your snow tires throughout the winter. And then the early snow before you've had a chance to put the snow tires on. I went with the DWS-06 last season and I know I am in the minority here - but they felt mediocre in the snow/ice. If DWS-06 is the best traction I can get in snow for a tire I drive year round, then I will be swapping blizzaks or something next November - March.

I learned the tires lesson years ago. Drove over Vail pass in a snowstorm (that came from nowhere) in a RWD car with Michelin pilot sports and it was terrifying. I think the rubber on the tires froze and just turned into some form of hard plastic with zero traction. Had to get towed up to the top by CDOT and get a motel in Frisco. The car in front of me was towed as well - and that was an AWD SUV (with summer tires I assume).

Looks like my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ don't have much tread left.

Definitely going to try DWS06 as my next set.

I'm running BFGoodrich g-Force COMP-2 A/S. Not as well known of a tire, but a huge upgrade over the original DWS. Haven't run the DW06 yet, so can't compare to that.

I looked at the Michelins too and the reviews on snow performance were a bit too iffy for me. It doesn't snow here much, but I wanted to play a bit safer.

I actually ran that same tire on both my TT and my A6. I really liked it. Great in the dry and rain (borderline summer tire performance), and decent in the snow. The issue I had was really bad wear on my A6. In fact, a buddy has a Jaguar XF and got the same tires (on my recommendation) and had the identical wear issue.

I'm really torn between them, the Pilot Sports and the DWS 06's when my Toyo Proxxes 4 Plusses wear out.

Does 18" vs. 19" make a huge difference in snow traction, regardless of tires?

    19" has pretty short sidewall.

Of course I can, you will have to wait a couple of months though, ordered them for after the snow will be all gone here in NY. The snow has barely started only that one night stand storm so I have a while till they will be put on, I will take pictures of them next to my car to get a look at them when they come but that wont look as good since they wont be on and they will be taking 2 weeks to be made. Im expecting to get them in about a month. Also forgot to mention that I got Kandy red center caps.

Good point, I am looking to do that but I dont want to waste money on winter tires for my 18"s stock rims as I am looking to buy some 19" peelers so I can have 2 sets of 19" rims.

It seems that overall everyone is leaning towards DWS06 and using those. I think I will go with those until I have 19" peelers to put actual winter tires on. Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

I am a big fan of running A/S tires where winters arent so bad, like the NYC to DC corridor. And the DW06 and Michelin Pilot sports A/S 3+ are more than adequate as long as you are not in a mountainous area. The OP is in Long Island and will be just fine driving there and the surounding areas. I have had the Conti DWS(not the 06 version) and they are more than adequate for my needs .Perhaps slightly better in snow than the Michelins which are slighly better in the dry. So go with the Contis if you want the tire with better snow performance cheaper too. All this is predicated on having at least 50% of tread left on tire. After that, the A/S tires are pretty much worthless in snow and ice.

didn't you created a thread a few days ago saying you got screwed because of your ''winter'' tires ?

it takes one ice patch and your loved modded car can be totaled. Good luck getting reimbursed for your mod with the insurance. Or get it repainted and see your resell value going down. Why? because someone wanted to ''save'' 400-1000$ on running dedicated winter tires (and performant summer tire) Vs. running A/S and having bad performance both in winter and summers. Yep, sounds like a genious idea lol.

A/S could work for my sister or my grand-ma if running in ''super mild'' winter as you say, but if you buy a S4, it deserve dedicated summer performance tire. If not, then, why buy the ''sport version'' if you don't drive it lol? Okay I'm out, you guys do what you want if your tires :)

Yeah everything is usually plowed most of the time, there are those couple of storms where its not as great just like the one we just had. No one knew how to drive and no one was prepared except me :) my tread is getting low so thats why im searching for the "best"!

Best for what? There is no magical tire. You want best snow performance? Dry performance? Tread life? Best value? If there was one "best" tire that's what everyone would have.

I had the earlier version of the DWS on my car at one point and I hated them. I hated them so badly that I'm unwilling to try the DWS06. The sidewall was woefully weak. And, while I do sometimes drive in snow because most of my family lives north of here and we do get snow in N. MS, I still can't bring myself to give them a go again.

I had the Michelin AS3+ through last winter here in N. MS and I liked them. They're expensive but I have the new Pilots Super Sports on my car now and don't want to waste them during winter. I was visiting family north of here recently, the temps were in the 20s, and I did a nice little tank slapper on a corner I took too quickly that I think was down to the tires being rock hard.

If I can get 90% of the tire for 75% of the price I'm really inclined to do that. Especially since snow over 1" deep is really unlikely here (again, it might blow your mind, but we do get snow in N. MS). I've been eyeing the Kuhmo ECSTA PA51 or ECSTA 4X II. Any thoughts?

I went with the BFGoodrich Comp 2 a/s as well. So far, theyre pretty sticky here in oregon. Definitely stoked to see what they do in snow.

Getting the Michelin sport A/S 3+ installed Wednesday (tire guy didn't have DWS06 in stock). Now I'm worried about road noise

I have the all season Nokian WR G3 245/40 R18 tires on my S4 currently. I think they are all right but I have no comparison. For the record, when the time comes, I'm going with DWS06.
