How long do your wipers last before they suck.......

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Audi has forever sucked in the windshield wiper department.
Honestly, it has to be my only gripe about my vehicle.

I have my windshleld treated, it didn’t help.
Wipers are at least a year old and been through a full Canadian winter of ice/snow/everything that can be thrown at it.

Other than replacing with the OE wipers, does anyone have any recommendations that work particularly in winter climates?

cheapest online source for OE replacements?

    Cheers

Six threads down the list (at the moment)...

    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...r-blade-issues

I don't deal with harsh winters, but since my first Audi back in '07, I've always been very impressed with OEM wipers. Maybe that's because my standard (i.e. domestic US and Japanese vehicles) was low, but I've found them to be very durable, effective, and darn-near silent.

Wipers are at least a year old? I'm no rocket appliancist, but I'd suggest therein lies the problem. I think life expectancy would be no more than six months.

https://www.genuineaudiparts.com/ - aka Audi San Diego. My favorite for anything OEM. Great prices, awesome above-and-beyond service, fast shipping.

Honestly I used to buy the expensive ones until I realized that I was replacing them at least every six months. I just bought some cheap ones for my S4 and will be putting them in very soon and will compare them against the significantly more expensive ones that I just put on back in August on the Q7. Not a direct comparison as they aren't driven the same but if it works out and last even 50% of the time as the expensive ones I'll switch over to the cheaper units as I can now replace them at least twice as much for about half the cost.

Either way I think thats a better bargain as I'll essentially have fresh blades on about 4 times a year vs the current one or at most twice on average to where I am now.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

Oops. Sorry for the double post.
Serves me right to go online without my glasses.

My wife’s CX3 has it’s original wipers on it. This is year 3 of ownership and they work as they did when brand new.
Replacing more than once a year...... seems extreme, but what can you do.

I replace mine about every 6 months...cheap insurance, and I see better.

Maybe they should last 1 year, but what the heck...they're wiper blades!

    FWIW/FYI for OEM fans w/ B8 & B8.5 machines...

This past week I noticed mine are about due (been on since January, when I last did the cabin air filter) and realized I didn't have a spare set in the garage. (Realistically, I probably do, I just can't find them. Story of my life.) So - time to order. My usual go-to, genuineaudiparts.com (aka Audi San Diego), has been having technical issues for days now, so I decided to try audiusaoemparts.com (aka Audi Reno Tahoe). Super-quick service, and they saved me money by letting me know about the new part number for the L+R set, as opposed to the individual p/n's I used previously. $38.70 per set, and since I bought two and spent > $75, they offer free overnight/business day shipping. All this communication, plus my shipping notification, was carried out via email in under 30 minutes. Great first impression.

Anyway, in case you're interested, here's the new part number for the front set: 8R1998002

The rear cargo door wiper p/n remains the same: 8R0955425

If you do happen to just need one front wiper, the old individual p/n's are still valid.

For many years I have used Turtle Wax rubber treatment on all my wiper blades. My 2016 Q5 has the original blades & my wife's' 3 yr old Hyundai SUV has the original blades also. Our cars are garaged so that helps. Wiper blades need care like the the other items on our cars. I also use Rainex washer fluid on outside glass which keeps friction down.

    Wow... a wiper blade complaint...

In the northeast, it makes sense for safety and clarity, to replace the blades going into winter and at the end...

Usually November and April for me, which is when I do my oil changes, regardless of mileage.

Health and safety should be your first consideration, not getting 2 or 3 years of wear out of a tiny strip of rubber.
Family comes First!.... Nice cars a close second.

Who is complaining about price or longevity?
I asked how long the OE wipers lasted before losing effictiveness.

I buy winter blades for my other vehicles and swap back and forth.
The Audi doesn’t have that option.

    Lol..... Mr. H&S
