    P0012 Engine Code

I have been getting a P0012 code on my '04 A4 1.8T Quattro. I have replaced the oil and filter, and replaced the camshaft position sensor. It doesn't have a rough start or idle. The only things I ha e noticed are that no matter how many times I clear the code, I comes back. I also noticed my car consumes quite a bit more fuel than I think it should be. I'm sitting at 180 at 1/4 tank left. This is with using the turbo very little. Aside from fuel consumption I do not notice anything out of the ordinary. Does anyone have any suggestions before I break down and take it to an actual mechanic?

I've only gone 180 miles on 3/4 of a tank
*The only thing that I have noticed out of the ordinary is fuel consumption and the code keeps coming back.

When was the timing belt done last? I had a similar issue. Don't remember the specific code but it was cam position related. And a cam sensor didn't fix it. My car had sat for some time and my timing belt tensioner lost hydraulic pressure so next time I started it timing belt slipped 1 tooth resulting in this issue. Your timing belt may be stretched.. my .02 not sure on the fuel consumption though. Hope this helps

I think your engine could be suffering from low oil pressure. The cam chain tensioner relies on oil pressure to adjust, low oil pressure means it will not adjust properly and set this code repeatedly.
Here's a link regarding this fault.

If you test oil pressure and it is low, it will mean sump removal and either replacement oil pick up pipe (if it's blocked) or replacement oil pump if the oil pick up pipe isn't blocked.

This fault means the engine is running with over retarded ignition, this would increase fuel consumption also.
