034 Motorsports Rear Sway Bar - Negative Review

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Everyone:

Ordered my B8 new from the factory in late 2010, so mine is a 2011 model. Love this car and keep modifying it! Only 54,500 miles in 7 1/2 years, but that's another story, The purpose of this post is to warn anyone thinking about using/installing the 034 Motorsports rear anti-roll bar.

To be honest, it's taken me a while to write this because I travel a great deal.

Specifically, with regard to my warning, you will notice in the instruction manual that you can install this product on ramps. Absolutely not true! Trust me, I tried it and it is not as they present on-line. Once I encountered the difficulties that I did, I e-mailed 034 Motorsports. Guess what came back? The following response (completely contradicting that which they have in the on-line instruction manual):

    Hey Jeff!

How are you doing? Thank you for reaching out to us.

Doing this on jack stands or ramps is quite difficult. The
first thing I'd recommend is make sure there is not any
load on the rear suspension. This will allow for the most
    clearance and working space.

I still installed it since I received as a Christmas present. Cost me $125 for install. Honestly, had I known that I could not install on my own, I would not have purchased/asked for the gift. Just want to let everyone know the deal with these guys; instructions on-line are COMPLETELY misleading.

Also, looking at a resonator delete with an x-pipe and was considering these guys. No more.

Jeff! This isn't specific to your situation, all sway bars on any car are the same way. Not sure why they said it should be done on ramps but every sway bar I've ever installed should be done on Jack stands

Why didn't you google how to do it instead of emailing them?

Super easy to do if you just tried to do it.

Ramps or jack is for clearance for you to climb under the car.

I had no problems installing my sway bar on jack stands. Took me about 30 minutes to do. Super easy.

So the negative review is on the instructions and not the actual product?

I think this is just on the instruction quality? I didn't read anything on quality of the product. Are you upset with customer service? You've been a member for quite some time, did you not search for others who've installed this on ramps?

I’m ready to install mine but not sure if stands or ramps is the best way.
How long did it take you with Ramps?

Having done them many times it takes about an hour but first time id say twice that. I like ramps because it loads the bushings. Otherwise youll need to load each side with a jack.

When I installed a STI rear way on my previous Subaru, I went to a DIY shop and replaced it with car on rails, four wheels are fully loaded and the procedure was pretty straightforward.

I tried Moog rear end links and and didn't care for how they fit. They looked like they would be at a consstant angle and put a bind on the bolts.. Took them off, put on stock until my 034 end links came in.

Step away from modifying your car, if you have no wrenching skills. Really there isnt a need for instructions to install a sway bar.

I'm pretty capable of working on my car, but I'd like to see a set of instructions before doing something like that for the first time. I wouldn't have been happy either if the instructions were wrong, but that probably doesn't deserve this thread.

You can install on ramps. Its the preferred way for installing sways as you want to load the suspension.
