What kind of gas mileage are you seeing before/ after your tune?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was averaging about 23 mpg (mixed driving, mostly highway) before I got the EPL stage 1 tune. After flashing their 93 file (no other significant engine mods) my gas mileage has plummeted to around 17 mpg. I figured my gas mileage would go down a bit, but not that much. My friend that has an APR stage 1 tune averages 25 mpg. Anyone seen similar results?

Don't forget that in many areas of the country we are switching to winter blend gas. You lose 2-3 MPGs there. Maybe just coincidental timing.

Most likely the "right foot" being used more. It's much more fun. When I drive responsibly, my MPG is about the same pre-tune. I'm UC'd now and get get 10-12 MPG if I'm having a really good time.

+1 for the winter blended gas as well.

With a heavy foot with my current setup running the 91 octane Stage 1 tune, I saw about 20mpg.
With that same heavy foot on E20 and running the Stage 2 tune, I am seeing about 17-18mpg.

That makes sense. Less energy in ethanol, so the more of that you run the worse your mileage.

I swear I lose more like 4-5 mpg with winter gas here in NE.

Bought car Stage II+ so I don’t know stock at all but I can average anywhere from 12-27mpg on my entirely backroad drive to work 20 miles.

Entirely dependent on your driving habits and available open roads to smash that gas.

Had the car for two months and never been on the highway at all so I have nothing to compare there.

Typically around 20 MPG, but I recently took a road trip down to Key West where the speed limit is between 45-55 MPH, and this must've been the sweet spot!
I had no idea I'd ever come close to 32 MPG.

As others have wisely noted what really matters is how much your right foot comes into play. I try to behave . . . whenever possible . . . which is not often.

I can still get about the same mpg on dual pulley as I did stock. I can get worse if I try lol. It's all in the way you drive.

If anything, I would think you could get better mpg after a tune, IF you can keep your foot off the pedal. It's just too tempting not to.

I commute ELP stg 2 and TCU tune. 300 miles per tank every week. Works out around 21 or 22 MPG based on my fuzzy math.

in the SF bay Area, none of my cars ever got great gas mileage. combination of my driving style, plus the hilly terrain, traffic, & our low density fuel. My stage 1 EPL car with 3 to 4 gallons E85 averages about 17 to 18, gets mid 20's on a full highway trip. got the same with my B5 and B6 A4 with a ton less power. don't think the tune affected it much, except for now I run the E85 mixed in, which lowers it a MPG or 2

only way to get good mileage around here is with a hybrid or normally aspirated lightweight car.

Thanks for all the replies. Guess I’ll have to try and see what I could get on a full tank driving conservative the entire time. Even though it’s real hard to do. I’ve only done about 3 pulls hard pulls on this tank. MMI says I’ve got 80 miles to empty so that math gets about 17 mpg. Just figured it would be better.

Also was curious if EPL tunes result in worse gas mileage than others but I guess it seems consistent.

Usually you should see an increase in gas mileage from a tune. These cars run pretty rich from the factory and the tune should lean out the mixture a bit. On a full tank I used to see an estimated 340 miles but after the tune it shows 370. Minimal increase for sure but an increase none the less. I can’t say I’ve been getting that as I do tend to push it a bit. I mean, that’s why the S4 with a tune is fun. There’s always a stretch of road worthy of a quick pull to keep the commute fun : )
