A7 brakes - what fits when upgrading?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys!

Wondering about upgrading my stock 3.0tdi brakes to S/RS brakes.

Have no clue on what would be bolt-on from other Audi models or what would fit with fairly simple mods?

    Any ideas out there?

I've not long fitted the S7 brembo 6 pots to my 3.0 tdi A7. Straight fit as mentioned above, plug and play!

Does anyone know if it is possible to fit C7 S6 front caliper brackets on a C7.5 A6 TDI for a bigger rotor (from 345 mm -> 400 mm)? Or BBK is the only option?

One more question, wil the stock calipers hold 356 mm rotor?

I don't quite understand? You have 356mm front rotors as stock correct? However IIRC the TDI has 345mm?

Any consensus on best bang for the buck upgrade? Ie. lowest ebay price for parts with best performance gain.

In IMHO, find a set of S6/S7 calipers, rebuild and refinish, mate them with Girodisc rotors. Not only the best bang for your buck, stopping power is greatly increased.

My brakes, front 400mm and rear 336mm are one of my favorite mods. I don't have Girodisc rotors on my C7 as I had a set of new fr/rr OE discs to get through.

For rotors, I've seriously considered RB 2 piece discs for the front and rear. RB is one of the few aftermarket brands that have put the development costs into both 2-piece 400mm fronts and 356 rears.

Zimmerman Rotors and Akebono pads will not be better than stock rotors and pads. Audi OE pads and rotors are very good for what they are. The one thing AB pads will provide is less dusting.

I always laugh to myself when someone says their new pads and rotors are way better than OE. The new setup stops so well because they're new and not worn! Not better. On top of that the trade-off for pads that are ceramics are cold bite is lessened.

Stock brakes are the best bet except for the dusting properties. You can buy any rotor pad combination and you will not realize decreased stopping distances nor resistance to fade.

More pistons, bigger rotors, and performance, dirty, dusty pads are best for improved stopping power.

All of this talk has me considering an S6/S7 caliper upgrade. What did the full upgrade cost you?

A7 brakes - what fits when upgrading?

I did my S brake upgrade, front and rear, for ~$2700 all in and installed. It’s the two piece front rotors and the Brembo front shims that make it more expensive than expected.

The stopping power is amazing though and by far my fav upgrade.

Currently pricing out a kit. It looks like it is going to come out to ~2,000 for used calipers and brackets, new (FCP) pads, rotors, shims, and sensor

Calipers, brakets, and lines are on their way! Gonna use up the remaining pad life on the stock brakes then order the pads and rotors from FCP and install my S8 set!

After looking around more last night the A8 brakes seem like the best value upgrade on this platform. ~$350 for used calipers and carriers for the front through eBay.

Hi, was hoping to get some help with how to choose upgrade kit.
    Currently i have a A6 C7 2012 with stock 356mm fronts/330mm rear calipers.

    1) In case of finding S6/S7/S8? calipers(as per below part no.), I can see in online ETKA caliper carrier but no part no. next to it(only comment:not for this model)
Do you happen to know or how to how to find out the right part no. of caliper carrier that will fit S6/S7/S8? calipers as well as the stock S-line A6 C7 wheel bearing housing(4G0407254B)?
    S6/S7 4G8615107(Left), 4G8615108(Right)
    S8? 4H6615107(Left), 4H6615108(Right)

    2) Currently summer tyres are on 19inch wheels and winter on 18inch wheels.
I suspect 18inch wheels wont fit over the calipers, is my assumption correct? 19inch wheels may be the minimum?

    3) Since the 18inch wheels are beneficial in winter time, is there any recommendations on brake upgrade should I choose to keep the 18inch wheel?

S7 front calipers cost me $700 on eBay
the original black finish looks like its seen better days so I'll paint them myself $60 for a G2 black paint kit on amazon
new front and rear rotors from 034 motorsports roughly $2000
EBC brake pads front and rear $300 on amazon, but I used points
    Shims from ECS Tuning $100
steel brake lines from ECS Tuning $100

    Total was $3260

I'm sure this can be done for cheaper or more expensive. Like others have said, the cost of the front 400mm rotors add up quick.

This is the cost of swapping rear brake pads and rotors at the same time as upgrading the front. If you're just doing the front then subtract roughly $1000

The Brembo carriers are hard to get if they have been separated from the calipers, I don't think Audi sells them but some places like killerbrakes sometimes list them. Short story, don't buy calipers without the carriers if at all possible.
