    Yokohama Iceguard Experience

Anyone have any experience with Yokohama Iceguard IG52C?

I've previously used Blizzaks on my B6 and they were great, but I plan on keeping my 19" Peelers for winter wheels and the Blizzaks are quite pricey.
Yes I know it can be cheaper to just buy another set of 18s with winters, but they won't clear my BBK and I have enough sets of wheels currently.

I'm in central Ohio so we get some snow, but winters are mostly cold and rain, which I've seen some negative reviews on the Iceguards with, but I think control in the rain is something most winter tires struggle with.

I get a discount on Tirerack plus there's a rebate right now on Yokohamas so it seems like a good choice but I haven't seen many reviews on the Iceguards on S4s.

They aren't bad, I have been running them for the last 3 years but on the stock 18inch setup. I paid somewhere around 280$ after a $70 rebate.

Pirelli Sottozeros are great on snow and ice and have excellent dry/wet road traction. Can’t recommend them highly enough

Ive owned 2 sets of Yokohama IG winters and i wouldn't recommend them. The other competitors have better products for similar amounts of money. I love the Nokian studded and non-studded. I've had Blizzaks before and just purchased a set of DM V2 for our Cayenne Turbo which i'm looking forward to. Michelin X Ice are pretty decent as well...better on ice than snow but still better than many competitors.

    The two recommended AudiZine tires:
    #1 - Michelin Pilot Alpine PA4
    #2 - Pirelli Sottozero 3

I ran the Pirelli for 2 years - they were excellent - but I decided to try the Michelin option now on the S4 - but since the Michelins are mostly only larger 19+ sizes I am jumping to the Pirelli for my Subaru as they were so good!

Many folks prefer the Nokians - but they are really more a standard winter tire than performance design..... The Blizzack LM32 is also an option - although I never had good luck with Blizzacks overall - so I personally avoid them.....

OP - I would opt for one of the 2 options that are most recommended on AudiZine for your stated conditions - You may even be able to get away with an All-Season - if the amounts of snow are small enough....

I had the opposite experience with Sottozeros and now will stay away from performance winter tires. If you get good amount on snow fall just get a real snow tire. Hakka, Xice or Blizzak WS

Had them on my previous car; FR-S. Those worked really well in winter even for lightweight rwd car, . Any winter tire will work great for our cars (heavy, awd).

    Thanks for all the feedback.

After some more research I decided to go with the PA4s.
They were about $50 a tire cheaper than Blizzaks, we'll see how the winter goes!

I just replaced my sottozeros with the iceGUARD iG52c. I was searching for some reviews on them here, but couldn't find any. They cut through snow and ice like butter. I am thoroughly satisfied and happy with these snows. I typically drive out tail end or right after a storm, when roads are not plowed. I am lowered on 034 springs, was driving through unplowed streets and 12+ inches of snowdrifts with ease. They complement the Quattro system very well. They grab a lot better in deep snow and ice than the sottozeros. Dry handling and cornering is not as good as sottozeros. They also make more road noise than sottozeros. But for the purpose of driving in snow, these are the best snows for the price.

For those looking for a great tire, the Nokian tire lineup is much more effective than you'd think. I've driven on Firestone, Michelin, Dunlop, Hankook, and many other winters. Trust in the Nokians...they are an amazing tire...studded or not. Where we live in Saskatchewan Canada the Nokian reigns supreme for many reasons....
On a side note i've sampled many Yoko winter tires and they are all garbage. Even if you are getting a discount on them don't "do it". Yoko has yet to develop a tire that supersedes it's competition in any year. Yoko makes mediocre winter tires and i feel sorry for those people uneducated enough to buy those tires...seriously

The iG52s meet or beat the Dunlops in all categories in the Tire Rack comparison tests.

    https://m.tirerack.com/tires/tests/t...b=ResultCharts

I’ve run all of the tires in that comparison with the exception of the WS80s, I had the WS70s. I have the Dunlops on my S4 now and the iG52s on my fiancé’s Mini CMS-all4 and I have to say that the iG52s have far exceeded my expectations; they’re quiet, stable and were inexpensive while feeling far more confident than what I recalled of the Xi3s from my B8 A4 days. Granted it’s a different car, but the Yokohamas have been great in my opinion.

No debate on the Nokians, but I’d give the iG52s another look after being thoroughly surprised.
