If you bought your B8.5 S5 used .....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
How old was it when you bought and how many miles were on it? Certified or not? Any regrets?

I'm trying to determine if I should up my budget for my S5 to get more of what I desire or if I should buy a slightly older one (2014) with a bit more mileage on it and save some money. I'm not finding what I want at the price/mileage I set my mind on.

    Thanks.

Bought my 2013 on August 1, 2015 with 26k miles, CPO and Audi Care.

I guarantee I would have had regrets if I didn't wait for a car with every option I wanted. I've experienced that type of regret in the past though, so I knew to wait this time around.

Bought my 2015 S5 at the end of May 2018. Had 26k miles on it with Audi Care already paid for 35k and 45k service by the previous owner. Bought it Certified (not CPO) through my local Audi dealer. Got the extended Audi warranty which gives me bumper to bumper coverage for 9 years/90k miles total (including remaining original factory warranty). I didn’t go with CPO as that would only provide coverage for 1 year/unlimited miles.

Absolutely no regrets. Has everything I was looking for in an S5. Sepang Blue (favorite color). Bang & Olufsen sound system, Nav, 6 speed manual transmission, and the Sport Differential. Perfect!

Nearly everything I want, although I want the DSG and black/brown or black/lunar silver leather interior. I might settle for alcantera for the right price (black/lunar silver).

If you bought your B8.5 S5 used .....

Just got a 2014 cabrio with 45k miles and the 45k service paid for with Audi Care by the PO. If you can afford it, try to find something with even a little factory warranty left. Even the 5000 miles I have is a big piece of mind, and if you want an extended warranty (warning, very expensive) they are cheaper if purchased before the manufactures warranty expires.

I do a lot of my own work on my cars so I’m not going to pay for an additional warranty and hope for the best.

I would shoot for 2014 or newer. If you get a 2013, make sure it has all the options you want - seems like the 2014+ had better standard options.

I got a 2014 CPO w/ 39k in April 2017. I didn't do the extended warranty. Zero issues+zero regrets. I almost went for a DSG that had fewer miles and cost less but I really wanted the manual. They are so rare, when this one came up it was a little above my budget but, DAMN this car is so sexy! The black optics package was a nice bonus. Hold out for what you really want, it'll be worth it. I rarely walk away from this car without looking back.

Some great feedback here. I really appreciate the comments. Seems most of you bought cars in the mileage range and age I'm looking for (2-3 years old, although '15s are now approaching 4 years, and less than 40k miles). I'll continue searching till I get what I want. I'm anxious, but since this won't be my daily driver, I'll wait as long as I need to.

I just picked up a B8 (sorry not B8.5) but thought I'd offer my 2 cents. My S5 is a 2010 6MT and I bought it as a pleasure car not a daily driver. Most important for me was documented maintenance as the car has 100K miles. It made my decision easy as all service intervals were done mostly on time at the Audi dealer. I stay away from cars that were maintained at the local quick oil change shop or cars that lack records. That tells me that the seller was more interested in saving a few dollars that properly maintaining an expensive car. Also, get a car without mods, and then do what makes sense for you.

I a 14 CPO Cab in Feb 17 with 41k. Yes the CPO costs and Audi dealer here would not budge on price. I searched nation wide on all the internet sites. The price was fair but not cheap. It was the EXACT color and options I wanted (Prestige with all options) and was local. I was not necessarily looking for a CPO.

The down side was it has turned out it was in a minor fender bender and repaint on the front and hood. Paint has issues. The CPO will not cover it. I still love the car and will suck it up.

If there are options in particular you want, download the brochures for each year as std options differed. Learn how to identify visually if you can from web pictures. Many times used car dealers do not know or list what the car has and that includes Audi dealers. As new there was a price diff between Prestige and Premium Plus but used there is not much nor how the car is optioned.

Came from a B8 A5 to a '14 Moonlight Blue Prestige w/DSG, the power delivery is great, love the instant performance from the supercharger, plus the added amenities I didn't have in the A5. I bought an extended warranty and it's already came into play, had both motor mounts and transmission mounts replaced. Overall I'm pleased with it.

Not a B8.5 but I got my 2012 B8 S5 4.2L Prestige for $27,399+tax. The car came with Stasis exhaust, Ohlins coilovers, and sway bar. I got it in May 2018 and it had 30,690mi on the odometer. It had new motor mounts put on right before I got it when they serviced it.

I was given a 2year CPO warranty for $2400 on top of that which has paid for half of its cost already (thermostat issue known for the V8) and I have free rotor and pads for front or rear whenever my brakes need them...

If the car wont be a DD I definitely say keep sohpping for something <35k miles as a 2015. You'll find it!

My 2010 S5 had the sport seats and I liked them a little better (better lateral support) than the comfort seats, but my 2014 S5 with such low miles (15K miles) and still under warranty was just too nice and too good a deal to pass on.

I dig the brown, but I could never do comfort seats. I've never seen brown sport seats in an S5, so I don't even know if that exists as an option.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the inserts unless they're red. Then again, maybe if I saw the brown I'd like it. I'm a whore for the black w/ atlas carbon that I have, but it does look boring when compared to my dad's Q5 S-line interior. He's got cream/brown/wood interior.

When I first looked at S5's a few years back, I saw one with the red inserts and like it. But now that I'm closer to buying, not sure I could live with them every day.

I think it only looks good with black or white exterior paint. I've seen a Sepang S5 at a shop with the red inserts and it looked ridiculous. The colors just clashed way too much.

bought my 2015 S5 with 7000 miles in Oct 2016, non-CPO. 6 months left on factory warranty. I get quotes every year for extended warranty and just add that amount to a bank account for potential repairs. Has all the options I wanted: Daytona Gray, Black/Silver Nappa seats, Tech Package, Black Optic, aluminum/black wood inlay, Sport Diff, adaptive damping, B&O...and grocery hooks. Only regret is not buying an older one so it would have a slower depreciation.

Similar to some of the others, I purchased a 2013 S5 as a CPO in May 2014. It had just under 15k miles. Original owner was kind enough to purchase the Audi care for the 25, 35 and 45k services for me. Coming up on my 75k service in the next month or so. I believe the 1-2 year old CPO is the sweet spot on most of the German cars. With the CPO the car is still under warranty through Feb 2019.

Had a few issues that have been covered by warranty - road debris punched through intercooler radiator, water pump failed (47k miles), GPS tracking was getting messed up so antenna was replaced and back-up camera was failing occasionally.

Overall, have thoroughly enjoyed the car and definitely recommend the CPO route.

Bought 2013 with 12k miles in March 2015, currently have 40k miles. Would have gone a couple years older to save on cost but 2013 was first year for supercharged 3.0 and that's the engine I wanted. Waited until the right car came along as I keep vehicles a long time. No regrets, car has had no issues and is a great daily driver.

Bought a 2014 in June of this year with 19K miles on it, one owner & clean carfax. No CPO as I got it from a small used car dealer right up the road from where I live so it was a super convenient purchase.

I love it except for the timing chain tensioner rattle!

I purchased my 2015 s5 in January of 2016 w/ 19k miles. Mythos black, black optics, manual, cpo. Still under warranty until 2021 i believe. Currently have 42k miles on it and I have zero regrets. I absolutely love this car every time i drive it.

2 small issues both covered by warranty. The bracket that holds the sunroof in place needed to be replaced and the speaker in the door also needed replacing. Both covered by warranty, no other issues.

I bought my 2016 S5 Prestige Cab in May 2017 with 27K on it. I wanted white or blue with non-black interior, black wood with aluminum inlay, and comfort seats, looked for 2 months. Now thinking that I could have done with sport seats, as I don't notice when the ventilated seats are on.

Bought it used from a Jag dealer in FL, it was a single owner lease bought at auction. I paid to have a PPI done at an Audi dealer nearby, and they pretty much told me it would pass as CPO if it had an alignment. Jag dealer did alignment for free and put 4 new tires on it. Opted not to do the extended warranty. I'm at 63K miles and haven't had any issues. I love the sport diff and adaptive cruise, totally worth it. I really wanted a convertible, but I probably would get a coupe if I did it all over.

Also wish I would have drove an RS5 first, but the cost of maintenance scared me.

Are you going to bother addressing the rattle or going to leave it? I really dont want an audi tech opening up the engine as there is probably a much higher likelihood they will mess something up than there is of this startup rattle causing any harm. I dont know.

I'm undecided at the moment but strongly leaning towards just leaving it alone, especially since several that have had the TSB done have had the rattle come back.

I bought mine (2013) used 80k miles. The power steering went out 10k miles later $2800. I saw that others were having this issue back in '13 '14. Other than that, the car is great. Soon to add Downpipes, and some companies stage 2 tune. Just praying nothing else breaks.
