    Roof damage. Totalled?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Long story short, my apartment's automated garage malfunctioned and ended up puncturing my roof with 2 holes and a few dents? Is my car repairable or will it most likely be totaled since the roof and the chassis are all one piece?

Gonna say totaled. Can be repaired but not sure it'll fall under the typical 65-75% to not have it totaled.

    Best of luck though.

I would think that's repairable. Here's a pic of an S4 that I saw at a collision center that was repairing our car. If I recall correctly, it was hit with a chunk of tire retread or something. Major dents in roof and door, windshield broken and top of dashboard cut up from the broken glass. Not totaled - was fixed.

Definitely not totaled.... Never done one on a B8 chassis but normally roof replacements aren't too bad of jobs. The windshield and back glass are removed, old panel cut out, new panel glued in, maybe welded at the front and rear headers.

I've noticed that these cars don't have seams so it would appear that the entire panel needs to be repaired by cutting it out where is that panel acquired?

    Very unlikely to be totalled.

The car isn’t that old, and the damage is pretty minimal. The roof can be repaired, or the skin replaced.

I am a certified body repairer, and believe me, it’s easier to replace 2 roof skins, than a rear quarter panel.

Where roofs don’t have an obvious seam, there will be a hidden one.

The replacement skin will dictate the areas that need to be ground down to expose the braised join, and that’s where the welds are removed.

    No cutting is usually required.

Wow that damage looks much worse than mine. Good to know that it got repaired! I just hope that the repair won’t result in water leaks later down the road since I plan on keeping the car for a few more years

I don't know if that would be considered totaled.

However, that automated garage for your apartment is fucking bad ass lol.

Pretty sure it'll be just fine, and most all reputable repair shops will warranty their work and ensure no leaks or other surprises. BTW, my wife reminded me that the S4 I posted pics of above was actually hit by a deer (was not retread debris). Frikken deer in Ohio can grow big and jump high!

Update: Got the quote. NOT Totalled :)

$6,500 to fix. Thank you all for your insights! The S4 lives to see another day

Thanks for sharing the quote. That seems reasonable, given all the labor it's going to require. Anyone else in your apartment ever have a similar issue with the automated garage equipment? Did they ever explain what went wrong with the equipment and more importantly, what they're doing to ensure it doesn't happen again?

That was the first quote but I'm going to guess that there will be another 2-3 grand added to that.

I remember how last year my A4 was injured like this and it was fatal because everyone told me that it was serious damage and in order to fix it you need to change the entire roof. I was offered to just sell it to get rid of all the subsequent problems. I was looking for a long time for a place where I could put my car on sale and, fortunately, my friend recommended me the best vehicle removal service, thanks to which I was able to sell this car at a good price, despite the serious damage. That's why I don't like auto garage doors

That's an amazing parking garage (ignoring your damage) - go all out and delete the sunroof with a carbon fiber hardtop! Honestly I'd can't think of a better opportunity to use insurance to get something cool

I'll tell you why, it's cause they're nut jobs on here who give people 5h1t for not searching and starting a new thread. LOL.
