    Oil cooler hoses?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm in the middle of my engine pull/timing service, meaning that I've got the engine out and I'm undressing the engine to get to the timing covers. At this point I'm starting to order parts that I know I will want to use in putting it back together. All of the hoses down low connecting to the engine and radiator were really oily, and I feel it's best to replace them.

The ones on the driver's side are power steering hoses, right? There seem to be a lot of them, and I haven't sorted out all the part numbers yet, but at least I can find diagrams.

On the passenger side (right seat side, this is a USA left hand drive car) the two nasty lower hoses seem to be send and return from the oil cooler. The one with the two hex nut connection was tough to get off, and I ended up twisting it a lot to get the nut off of the thread. The problem is, I can't find this hose in any of the oil cooler or radiator diagrams I've found.

What would be really great is a diagram labeling the various hoses, but my immediate need is to identify that particular hose, the one with the two hex nut connection at the radiator. Anybody?

Maybe a pic would help. Thousand words and all that.

    B6/7 s4?
The b6/7 S4 has an oil cooler mounted to the block with only coolant hoses coming off of it.
That leaves power steering cooler hoses on the drivers side and automatic cooler lines on the passenger side. Are these what you are referring to?

    Oops! Long day.

B7 S4, Tiptronic. The pic is of the passenger side pair of lines connected to the oil cooler, I think. Next to the alternator.

The lines in your pic would be your transmission cooler lines and they connect to the front clip assembly, not the oil cooler.

    All Over!

A cheaper option would be to remove the original corroded lines, and get them made in stainless braided.

They’ll last longer, and will still be cheaper than buying the RS4-specific lines from Audi.

Thanks for the clarification on just what those lines are, and for the suggestion on the braided lines. This forum rocks!

As it turns out, one of my friends who has been helping with my first time pulling an engine is a former aircraft tech. He says he'll help me put hoses together with end fittings. This could work!
