    Vacuum/Air Pump Leaking Oil

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have had a small oil leak I noticed and when I took it in for an oil change I asked them to look into and was called and told that the vacuum pump is leaking the oil and is $930 to replace. I didn't find much on the forum about this. Anyone have any inputs on this and where the best place is to find the parts?

You can buy the seals for it on ECS tuning, just rebuilt a vacuum pump for a saab 9-3, its literally two orings.

Thanks, they said it's the actual pump and there's no rebuild kit for it but who knows, you're probably right. Another shop said they can take a look to see if it is the pump or the seal, if pump they said $680 replaced.

lol 680, the pumps themselves arent even that much.

If you wanted to, just order the whole kit off ECS and replace it yourself, not even that difficult.

The coolant flange o-ring (the one from cylinder head) is measured at 36x3.15

The o-ring for the radiator hose connection is 32x4

The o-ring for temp sensor 19.6x3.6

    Hope this info helps...

it creates vacuum for the brake booster which is critical in braking .

Normally aspirated engines always have vacuum on the intake which is plentiful to supply the brake booster. On turbo charged engines when the turbo kicks on the intake manifold becomes pressurized leaving no vacuum to supply the brake booster. Therefor a vacuum pump is used for the brake booster on a turbo charged car.

to find it follow the big line back to the vacuum pump from the brake booster..
