Pay someone or install the Downpipe in my garage?

Just ordered a Downpipe and have heard that it's very difficult to replace a Downpipe or at least take off the stock one. Any thoughts? I have a quickjack that lifts the car a couple inches higher than jack stands will. Is it worth paying $400 for a shop to do it?

You have the driveshaft removal tool? Or access to various connecting rods that could fit, and bang off...? Don't drop the subframe.

Pay someone unless you have a lift. That’s the way i see it. I don’t pay for most of my mods to get installed but i will make an exception with the DP.

Pay the $400. I did mine on QuickJacks and it sucked. I’m also one of a handful of people that broke my driveshaft while it was out. That was a $1350 mistake.

You need a full lift and 2 experienced people. I just finished mine last night, it took 6 hours. It would've taken the quoted 3 but had to find a new vband clamp for the turbo connection and then my Milltek exhaust didnt mate to the iroz midpipes very well which took a bit to correct enough to not hit the drive shaft bolts and rear suspension.

The actual hard parts of dropping subframe, wiggling downpipe out, etc..went very smooth, but only because we used a full 2 post lift.

I would never do this on jacks or you'll spend 16 hours like they did in that YouTube video lol.

How did you manage to do that, if you don't mind me asking? I have access to a lift, done so many exhausts in my life, I can't figure out how you messed up the driveshaft (have a logical suspicion) which really sucks man, sorry.

While the driveshaft is out of the car the center joint is extremely fragile. If you don’t keep both halves fully supported at all times you have a good chance of breaking the joint.

So my car is at the shop. They quoted 3 hours, and now they're saying it's going to take them a total of 9 hours. Does that sound about right? Supposedly this is a reputable shop but only had experience with installing downpipe for TTRS as I just found out. They also said that they MAY have some rubbing issues. Did you guys have any of those issues? Since the downpiipe (CTS) is smaller than the stock one, it should be the opposite no?

Most shops assume it's a normal downpipe install and misquote time/ price. But it took me and a friend 6 hours with some broken parts

Just got it installed. All is well so far! Man is it loud though at WOT! I may install the stock secondary cat in the near future as I can still smell it parking in my garage.

Me and a friend did mine on his hoist in 3.5 hours start to finish. We're both mechanically inclined though. Driveshaft tool is a must in my book...we got it out before having to lower the subframe. Hardest part was wiggling the stock down pipe out.

You guys changing the DP on jackstands are champions! I went with the Milltek catted DP and it still has some smell. I went with the Milltek because I could easily swap out to the non-catted section if I wanted to. Its just the welds are well, yea... lol

So I just switched to the stock secondary cats and made a significant difference in reducing the sound. I would say the sounds is exactly between stock and all catless. I still hear a slight bit of soft rattle or what sounds like a small exhaust leak, but definitely no leak as I checked it while under the car. This is only during part throttle. What is that? It was a lot noticeable when I went all catless.
