2013 Audi A5 (Common Problems)

Hey Guys, has your Engine & Transmission been reliable? The 2.0T seems ok, but I've heard stories about the Tiptronic 8-speed.

I have a 2014 A5, 2.0T and the 8 speed, haven't had any problems yet, and im almost at 70k

The 2013 2.0t in the a5 is the same crap engine thats in the a4.

From what I heard that 2013+s are pretty reliable and don't burn oil. I was just in the big a4 section and notices the cam tensioner class action lawsuits.

I had that same issue with my 2.0 b7. It's a joke that Audi still hasn't been able to figure these issues out.

Any a5s on here have the cam tensioner issue?

Timing chains, tensioners, and guides are being covered on engines including 2013 model year for a4 and a5. I would not assume audi all the sudden fixed all these issues on newer engines either. Its just most have lower miles now.

I have a 2013 A5 quattro coupe: no oil burning, no tensioner issues, no transmission issues. Maybe I lucked out and got a late year model with all the updated parts. VW/Audi continually update their parts, so get the newest engine of that generation you can.

I have the 8-speed transmission and it's the smoothest shifting transmission I've ever driven. This transmission made by ZF is used by lots and lots of manufacturers (Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar, Chrysler) and I haven't heard much complaints.

Like all transmission, ignore the "lifetime fill" crap and change the fluids (ATF, differential, quattro) every 40 - 50K miles and I think you'll be fine. I also have the notorious VW 01M transmission, which people say is practically worthless, but I have 180k+ miles on it and still shifts as smooth as the day I bought it.

Just be extra vigilent about the maintenance and don't go for cheap parts/fluids, and I think these cars will last a long time.
