PPI Suggestion in Portland Oregon Please?

Hello all,

Working out a deal on a 2015 manual with a non Audi dealer in Portland Oregon. I am trying to get a PPI but the salesperson is trying to talk me out of it. The vehicle had two owners so far, the first one was a lease and the owner performed the recommended services on time upto the 25k service, which was in October 2016. The second owner looks like never did the 35k with the dealer at least. Also during the second ownership, couple of brake services and engine/power train checked record is questionable.

The 35K is a major service at least with the DSG, not sure about the manual though. The vehicle is currently at 45k, so will perform a 45k service for sure.

Should I be worried about the service history with the second owner?

I will definitely perform a PPI and found this http://pdxinspections.com/ by google search. Has anyone used them or anybody have suggestions?

I had a PPI done by Matrix Integrated on a B8.5 S4 I almost bought in Portland, worth every penny. They gave me a bunch more information. If the dealer is trying to talk you out of a PPI that’s not really a surprise, since an inspection is going to be someone else looking for potential issues.

Ultimately I’d recommend it on anything that wasn’t already certified pre-owned.

Matrix is great but has been working more on the Porsche side of things recently and is often busy.

M&W Automotive or Futrell if the car is on the west side of Portland. Double J Motorworks or Halsey if it is on the East side.

Just FYI, you can call the dealership and figure out exactly what was done to the car during each service.

There are 3 service locations here. Sunset(West of Portland), Sunset east(NE Portland near the airport) and Wilsonville(South of Portland)

Thanks mate for sharing your experience, gives me confidence, but still will do the ppi just for peace of mind and records. With this kind of investment, I will sleep better.

remember you are buying an Audi. the dependability should be there regardless if new/used.
quality parts should be able to take some normal daily use and keep pushing strong.

Hey Geoff. Yes, lots of Porsche's lately(because it's been the summer and clients are getting their vehicles fixed up before they go into hibernation for the winter), but lots of Audi's(and BMW's and VW's and MINI's and...) too.

I would never buy a German car without a PPI. I find it weird that the Dealership won't do it. Good choice with the Manual transmission. The DSG's are hit or miss.

Reasons why I can think of why a salesperson would try to talk someone out of a PPI; trying to hide something, doesn't want to deal with negotiating on price dependent on PPI findings, trying to capture the sale quicker without the delay of PPI/client re-thinking purchase, etc.

Thanks, the main reason for the manual is kind of missing the third pedal and rowing after not driving a stick for almost 23 years.

True, DSGs are wonderful and could have found one locally if I was after one. But since they removed the manual in the B9, the proven B8 manual was the only way to go after considering several other brands.

Hello, you were absolutely correct, they are bunch of crooks and not sure how they are staying in business. They keep changing their names, so when I searched over the internet before your post did not find their older dealerships. Anyway, the day before you warned me, I put a considerable amount of deposit and signed a contract. The contract said I have to close within 4 days or up to 2 weeks, I was not worried so much as they are located inside a well known dealership in Portland. Then the next day when I called to arrange the PPI, the salesperson said the car is locked up in the owner's garage as collects car and now he is out of the country, will not be back until 20th. All sounded fishy to me and asked them to just cancel the contract and refund my money, but he would not agree. Then the following Monday, when I called the dealership, the owner answered. When I disclosed myself, asked him if he is back from his trip, he said no, still on vacation and the phone rolled over to his cell. But he was rude and did not want to discuss about it, asked me to contact him on the 18th and hung up the phone. Since then the salesperson stopped answering my phone and replying to my emails. But fortunately have the email thread with the salesperson replying the above story. On Tuesday, the 2 weeks were up, so finally got hold of the salesman and he said they still could not locate the owner and will refund my deposit. So far no sign of the refund, so have opened a dispute with my credit card.


All this time, Jeremy from Matrix have been tremendously helpful and responded to all my emails, gave great suggestions. Wish it was a real sale and I have performed a ppi with them. If I find any cars in Portland in the future, would not hesitate to reach out to them for a PPI. Thanks Jeremy.
