Audi Connect SIM card in Pre-owned 2015

I've searched and read some threads, but I have a few questions...

As a recent purchaser of a pre-owned car, do I need to pay for Audi Connect for a month or so to get it "activated" and then swap in a new SIM card, or could it work without that?

I've created an account at myaudiconnect.com, but have not added my VIN number or SIM card number of the card in the car (just don't have access to it at the moment). Should I go ahead and enter the number on the plain white SIM in the car already?

I have an ATT family share account, so can I just add a "vehicle hot spot" SIM to my account and be good to go?

Thanks, I read about people using freedom POP wireless and T-Mobile cards, but I couldn't pin down the basics of what I need to do as a second-hand buyer.

Pretty sure that without some level of manipulation, T-mobile cards were the only ones supported in US spec MMI 3G+ that year. I tend to recall hearing about some work-around for using AT&T, but don't recall reading about a whole lot of success with it.

My 2015 RS5 came with a T-Mobile sim. I use a freedompop SIM card that is on the ATT network and it works fine. I occasionally get the can’t connect to myAudi for destinations (speaking of which, currently in that state). You will just have to change the APN. For reference, my car was built ~May 2015, incase there were some hardware changes in between.

On my pre owned 2013 RS5 it had a T-mobile card in it and when I tried to enter the number it said it was already active. So pretty much you either need to call Audi connect and get a new SIM (this is free), or you can do it through AT&T if your car has an AT&T chip in it. I have no experience with freedom pop or any other 3rd party services.
