I am buying a tune today but APR stage 1+ or UNITRONIC stage 1+ ???????

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok guys i havent seen many reviews about apr stage 1+ and quarter mile times with it......well i saw none to be tbh.....

On the other hand, i saw plenty of Unitronic stage 1+ reviews and they all seem goodl. There is a .6 delta at the quarter mile and a 6-7 mph upgrade with it on all the cars i saw.

Id like to know if APR stage 1+ would be even more powerful cause it my town they sell it for 400$ more than the Unitronic stage 1+......Is it a more agressive tune and would i get more gains with it ?

Let me know asap cause i dont wanna miss that UNITRONIC stage 1+ deal that ends today if APR isnt more powerful or brings something more to the table

    THANK YOU

I think that you already answered half of the question. APR sells for $400 more in your town. Unitronic has been aggressive with their discounts and very straight forward. $400 alone is already a very appealing reason to go with Unitronic.

I still haven't seen much of info on people running 91 or 93 oct APR tunes with actual drag strip time slips. I seen a bunch of Unitronic videos and time slips but not so much on APR and I don't know why. That is one of the main reasons why I have been holding on my tune (same as you). If you don't need the tune today and you are hesitant I would recommend you to search more. Trust me, I love to tune my cars (all my cars) but is a lot of money on the table.

In all honestly , I think that either APR or unitronic would make you happy. For me one of my priorities is not to have to put my foot on any APR dealer ever so that I don't have to go through tune/file revisions which cost me money every time. That is a strong argument. Do what you think fits you best. I had APR tunes on 3 of my last cars within the last 2 years(A3, S3, A6) but I am looking at things differently. On a different note, APR has a worldwide awesome dealer/distribuitor network.

Think Unitronic gives a certain amount of days for a refund, APR as well.
APR stage 1 E85 has got to be pretty strong, but is it safe?
If you go down that road, I would log the crap out of it, since "I" heard some interesting info.
Peoples lack of posting info can be a bad indicator.
    But???

If you want power and convenience go UNI. APR will get expensive and annoying with the updates, unless your dealer flashes you for free, which is annoying anyway because you have to drive and waste time etc. I don’t have anything with APR but the having to go to the dealer for me got expensive with me on my last car and the drive to my dealer is almost an hour away one way.

I've been running APR's original release E85 tune for a couple of months now. I hadn't really planned to run E85 for this long, but it's so accessible. Recently dyno'd 540 to the wheels, and I've had no issues. The car is a monster. That being said, most of the tunes seem pretty comparable in terms of the power they make, I've just enjoyed APR in the past and trust their R&D. To each their own. Get whatever you're comfortable with and enjoy the ride!

^^ you made 540 whp? That is a very optimistic dyne number. is that just with the E-85 tune or more stuff? probably on a FWD mode and dynojet.

1+ vs 1+, I really don't think there's that much difference. If you're interested in E85, go with APR. If you want to be able to flash at home, go with Uni. Any power difference between the two at 1+ is probably imperceptible. APR also plays with the crackles and valves (you, essentially, lose Comfort mode). Just something to keep in mind.

That said, I've been running Uni 1+ for months and can't recommend it enough. The car is beastly, I get 32mpg on my daily commute, and it runs like a stock file. (I can't say how similar or different this would be from APR).

There might also be some other different on these tunes you might want to look at. APR supports left foot braking but I don't know if uni support this.
    Other things might be like:
    - Cold start protection
    - Temperature protection
    - Speed limit unlock
    - RPM limit increase

Don't know who support this but I for sure would like to know this when I am going to pick a tune.
But I really love this "flash at home" that Uni have :)

What did your car dyno stock? 540 seems high for stage 2 e85.

very intersting ! yea i wanna go with UNITRONIC since they are local and they provided a lot of convincing data but im still wondering if APR will yield more power.....There is no quarter mile or dragy data abourt APR tune and i really wonder why ?

i heard APR tune puts out more boost and isnt as safe as UNI ( can someone confirm ? )

i might wait a bit but so far UNITRONIC has my vote....Let me know if someone tuned his car with APR im very interested to hear about it !

id be glad to put you in touch with some users who had apr and switched to UNitronic. You could always pm them for their personal experience?

Replying to this first, since it's important for perspective. Yes, it was FWD mode. I don't know the dyno brand, but it's whatever EQ tuning uses. Gains are all below, which is all that really matters, IMO.

I haven't added any bolt-ons, tune only. I never dyno'd before flashing, so I'm assuming the APR "stock" tune is actually stock. Stock was 371, 91 tune (CA) was 414, E85 was 543. Gains of 43 WHP from stock to 91, and 129 WHP from stock to E85. For reference, my local pumps put out around E82.

The really impressive gain is the torque. Stock toque was 356, 91 was 439 and E85 was 543. I'm happy with my tune, but I can't say that it's "better" than anyone else's. People have issues with each tune, and why they like one over the other. Just giving my feedback. FYI, if I didn't want "plug&play," I doubt I'd go APR...

Yeah, unless you're absolutely in love with how APR does their tunes, or you need e85 immediately, I'd suggest Unitronic. Having to visit a shop for updates/changes, even if you're down the street, is a huge drag. Besides, I'd expect Uni's e85 tune will be along shortly.

Another vote for UNITRONIC. John and Brian have given me some of the best support that I have ever had in my 30 years of building cars. In addition, never again will I go to a tune that I cannot Flash and or update.

I'd also check out the Time Slips I just posted, I am running E85 on a beta tune if you are serious about that I would ask what the status is for release.

Got my Unitronic 1+ tune today. This thread motivated me earlier and I got up, grew some kahunas, and did it. Happy I did. Saved 100 bucks with the sale so I got the Uniconnect to flash at home. That was the biggest selling point for me...

But WOW. The tune feels natural, you can absolutely feel the difference when you put your foot down. It pulls hard..and when in traffic it all feels normal.

I didn’t get the TCU upgrade. Initial impressions, no issues with shifting. Actually felt really smooth today. I will drive it all over town tomorrow and will post anything out of the ordinary.

I'm not on the payroll, however I've become good friends with everyone there from previous platforms and now I guess you could say I'm outside sales/customer support/dealer support focusing on the mqb, b8/8.5s4 and c7 s6/7 chassis.

I also just went to the website hoping that I could make the purchase and just to find out that they don't sell directly. That is going to be an issue, my next dealer is 100 miles away in Phoenix, AZ (I am in Tucson, AZ).

Been running APR E85 file on my car for 3500+ miles and beating the shit out of it and I have had zero problems. Low 11s on 93 with just a tune, no IC or intake, multiple 10.70s on the E85 file full weight TT RS on street tires on the street verified with draggy.

Honestly as of late there has been for political BS with all the tuning companies and plenty of mud-slinging to go with it. With that being said all of the tunes are fairly close to one another stage 1 and Stage 2 it boils down to convenience, what you want brand-wise, weather and what tire setup you plan on running that will yield the best times at the drag strip.

Didn't have draggy for stock pulls, but I'd say high 11s? Most of the 93 pulls were in the 11.27-11.39 range depending on the launch and if I had traction or not, was completely stock car wheels, tires, intake filter, everything, so on 93 to be running low 11s I was happy with it and it drove around town great. But I am sure the same can be said for CC/iroz and also Uni, ulitiamtely it's up to you to pick which one you want, I think you will be happy with any of the stage 1 or 1+ tunes.
