    A8 Brake Calipers - Interest?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So having sold the second set of calipers I cleaned, sanded and repainted successfully I am curious if there is any interest from anyone if do another set? Color can be determined by the buyer. The reason I ask is that the junkyard that sold me the last two sets just notified me that they just received a 2012 A8 in they are parting out. Obviously I need to give them an answer rather quickly as they will be for sale to public as soon as the car is broken down and listed. NOT looking for any money up front, just interest from a buyer (s). These are calipers that work with 380mm x 36 rotors and are a direct bolt on for B8 B8.5 S4.

    Thanks, joe

I may be interested. Assuming they fit on the b8.5 S5 as well?

Yeah, they are direct bolt on.

The only issue with this setup is sourcing rotors can be difficult

I may be interested as well but what's price you would be asking for a set?

I'm assuming they also bolt up to the A4 right? I'm under the impression the knuckle is the same across the board for A4/S4/A5/S5

    Thanks whiped.

So after purchase of the calipers, one would just need to source some rotors and purchase brake pads and then it's a direct bolt on to the B8.5 S4, correct?

Zimmermann Rotors are what I put on my son's car along with Hawk HPS 5.0 pads

Price for just the calipers would be $400 shipped to the lower 48.

    Thanks, Joe

Q5 ones are 4 pot fixed calipers and fit a 345x30mm rotor.

A8/SQ5 are floating 2 pot calipers and fit a 380x36mm rotor.

Related, A6 are the same caliper, different bracket and fit a 356x34mm rotor.

I'm really surprised the A8 only uses 2 pot calipers with how big and heavy it is

The A6 caliper is not the same. It will not bolt up to the A8/SQ5 carrier.

Really? I thought the only difference was the bracket similar to the A4 -> S4 front brakes.

I've installed both the A6/SQ5 calipers and they look physically the same.

100% positive. They look almost identical, but they are different. I've gone through this first hand upgrading my C7 A6 brakes to an A8/SQ5 setup.

I know you have that's why I was asking.

Bummer, I was considering picking up a set of smaller brackets so I could run 18s during track season. Oh well.

Is there an option similar but uses 4 to 6 pot calipers? That's what I'm looking for.

What about using a Q5 caliper with larger rotor? Would that be SQ5 setup and what all would that take?

so wouldn't Q5 4 POT Cali be better then A8 or does it just boil down to preference? Also All A8 calipers bolt-up or specific yr?

The Q5/Macon setup is 4 piston brembos on 345mm rotors. Thats the same rotor size as the S4/S5 have stock. Not an improvement in thermal capacity. Only pad area and deflection / feel. Its a great low cost upgrade for the A4/A5 cars with lower power.

The A8/Sq5 380mm setup uses 2 piston calipers with 380mm rotors. Not as advanced of a caliper but a huge improvement in thermal capacity. If you want a cheap track day setup this should work. The only downside is rotor options and pad options but there's enough to get by.

Is the A8/SQ5 setup the best bang for the buck? If so, where could I source the parts for the cheapest? Maybe separately? Seems like FCP Euro doesn't carry a kit.

Its alot of brake for the money. 380mm theoretically should have capacity for hard track use but i cant tell you 100% until i try them out myself. You can get these calipers on ebay or scrapyard for 120 each used or just save youself the hassle and buy them from audifamilyguy06 for 400 all cleaned up an painted. Worth it imo.

The rotors are expensive if you go Zimmermann or oem. Fcp eoro for 280 per or try and find no name one from napa for 50 per

Sweet, thanks. Yeah, I'm thinking $400 for these calipers + Zimmermann rotors + Hawk or Akebono pads.

It seems there is enough interest in doing another set so I pulled the trigger on them.

If you are interested and would like a specific color combo I can certainly try to accommodate.

It will take a few days to get them and a couple of weeks in my spare time to break them down and get them prepped and painted and then put back together ready to go.

Just give me a shout via PM.

    Thanks, Joe

I have a firm commit for the set of calipers that just arrived.

That said, it appears there is enough interest that I will let the yard know that if it receives any more A8 with the 380 MM rotors, to let me know if the calipers are good and available.

PM me if you are interested and I can reach out to a wider network to see if these are available from other sources.

    Thanks, Joe
