Another good one that ranks high is Yokohama Advan AD08R. Not race rubber, but very sticky. It is in the "Extreme Performance" summer street tire category with Tire Rack. I've been running them on a modified Mazdaspeed 3 that is about 360 horsepower. That's about all a 3000 lb FWD can handle.

It is not a true R compound tire, but is an extremely competent street tire that can handle some track duty.

I have RE-71r's on my stage 1+ TTRS, and they won't hook up at all using launch control, but the road noise is bearable and the R888 has really loud road noise, and will perform better from a launch and more than likely will also perform better in the turns.

Are you referring to the older R888 or the new R888R?

I'd guess the R888Rs will be better on track, re-71s better on street. what about a pilot sport cup 2 which should be pretty good on both?

I would like to add that this will be my dedicated track set of wheels and tires. I dont want slicks as ill be driving to the track, just want a bit of tread in case it rains. Racetrack is a short drive from my home

I'd try the R888r if it is only going to be used driving to the track and on track, but if you are using it for track and street I would probably try some Sport cups 2s.

Although I haven't tried these specific models, over the past 10+ years I've found Toyo to be superior to Bridgestone for both track and street. btw: I still love the tread pattern of the Toyo T1R which I got when first introduced as many years ago.

For street use I'll be very soon ditching my OEM Bridgestone for always appreciated Michelin.

The road noise is horrible on the R888, only reason I would not recommend it for daily driving.

RE71Rs work well as a non-slick track tire. Imo, they respond/recover better when the car tries to understeer (compared to SC2s or Trofeo Rs). Don't mind driving them 2-3 hours to the track and they're actually find around town. Wear fast, so no highway.
