Does insurance cover it? I had a pretty good expirence with safelite on a different car. They came to my house and installed the windshield in my garage. The glass was less than my deductible so I just paid them and didn't get insurance involved. If it were me I probably wouldn't tell the dealer on a lease. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Typically if you go through the dealer to get the glass replaced they order the glass from Audi and have a glass contractor come to the dealership to install it. The only real difference is OEM glass vs aftermarket which is of equal quality since it has to be rated to be installed in a motor vehicle.
I’d save the hassle and use an independent glass shop that has mobile service so they can do it on your time. Good luck!

The only thing that makes me wanna go to dealership is not having problem with dealer when I took it back at the end of the lease.

We had to get our windshield replaced on a 2018 Highlander. My insurance told me I could take it wherever. The Toyota dealership actually said they don't do any windshield replacements. I'm guessing Audi is going to say the same thing. I took it to Safelite, and it took them a little over a hour to replace it with an aftermarket windshield. I asked about OEM glass, but they said it's the same vendor as OEM, and that if I wanted OEM I had to wait a few days. I have a lease and Toyota said that it was fine to replace the windshield with an equivalent aftermarket so I went aftermarket. You may want to check with Audi just in case. You'll also have to check and see if you need a camera and sensor calibration with the windshield replacement. I had to get that done. It's called ADAS calibration (https://www.safelite.com/windshield-...echnology/adas). They charged $300 for that calibration. Again, it took just over an hour to do the replacement and calibration so I wonder what was actually done for calibration. They may have just driven it around.

Sounds like you've got some good options to pursue - I hope it all works out well.

Glass coverage in California, is silly...at least it was the last time I had to deal with this, back in 2008. We had the option to file a comprehensive claim, but since our deductible was $500, we elected to just pay cash. My wife's 2007 ES was still new in the marketplace, and finding any windshield with the rain sensor was nearly impossible. The dealer was terrific. They put her in a loaner and worked with their glass vendor to source and install a replacement. That's definitely one advantage of driving a premium brand, and I wouldn't be surprised if you get at least some assistance from your dealer on this.

Some nameless, large windshield company who may have been mentioned here, failed the replacement of my old Honda pilot windshield. Funny thing is I talked to the tech when he did it because I insisted on oem glass. They failed to get the seal, three times. My dash filled up with water, lit up like a Christmas tree, beeping, and rear hatch opened on it's open. Dealer had the car, they eventually said, we're not going to warranty and electrical claims. I made three windshield company buy the car from me.
