    Thanks for the info as my tune has just been just been all APR tunes to this point. I'm located in far NorCal now and not much in this neck of the woods. If no plug and play (S3 type injector) I may just have to wait until I can make a trip to the nearest tuner. Thank all (Mars2) for the advise!

    Honestly they only thing we need them to make is a 5th injector kit that’s elegant and clean because everything else already exists.

    Ok here is the Chinese turbo I got

    I decided on the TBO k04-064z as the donor. Listed for $780 on eBay with free shipping (3 week) or on Alibaba.com for $520. Can get them down to $420 on a order of 4 or more with various levels of shipping ranging from $100-$200.

    I spent $175 on FedEx international priority and it came in a week. So $700 total vs $780 from eBay. No duties.

    Was very surprised to see TBO had their own branded boxes and the turbo was boxed fairly well. Double boxed. Caps in all the oil and coolant ports, caps on compressor inlet and outlet, and the entire turbo bagged.

    The included downpipe and manifold gaskets are kinda bent but I didn’t plan on using them anyways.

    The seller included all 5 wastegate springs like I asked







    Can see that extra port on the wastegate that’s plugged with a set screw

    Compressor outlet/ turbo muffler delete. I like that the outlet pipe is larger than the turbo opening so there is no restriction there



    Can also see that bend in the wastegate actuator, not sure if other actuators would work with those mount points



    Borg Warner logo



    Turbine housing is a little wonky here



    Ptp blanket appears to fit





    The 9 blade turbine that comes with it, almost is too tall for opening and pokes out, also has a huge nut and has marks to indicate it’s been balanced



    Taking it apart



    The billet 8/0 compressor, actually doesn’t look bad





    The enhanced cartridge definitely spins more freely and smoother.

    Enhanced on the left tbo on the right



    Fitting the compressor



    And then the turbine, the enhanced turbine looks like it fits better than the chra it came with



    More shots of the wastegate and the springs (5th spring is in the actuator)








    Feeling good about this. Casting seems nice. No apparent cracks. Can see a joint or something in the casting where the loba is cracked and this is much more solid. Loba must of had a bad casting or mold

    Was considering a port and polish but the runners seem fairly large and the compressor inlet and outlet are smooth already

    Runners seem thinner than loba in a real bw housing but just going off memory now

    Measured the inside diameter to 35.1mm and they don’t seem super rough inside or seen to have much room to take off material

    The included gasket over layed on the manifold



    Doesn’t seem like can open much maybe 1-2mm

    Chinese n75 - measured 23 ohms even




    Very happy that the enhanced cartridge fits. Was skeptical it would stick out like the tbo turbine does and in the listing tbo list the inducer sizes slightly smaller than oem but I assumed they just rounded. The enhanced 9 blade looks so much better in there with way more space between the blades

    I am really curious what the boost profile would look like on these various different types of turbines. So far we have 6+6, 7+7, 8/0, and 11/0 options available, and a whole host of different style and size turbine wheels.

    So this turbo comes with a yellow spring installed in the wastegate I forget the rating of the spring, but there is essentially no preload on the flapper and you can move it by hand

    I can see how this would cause issues out of the box for people attempting to use this as is or copy what I’m doing

    Posted a few months back about HPA K04. Finally got time to pull a log that might show some problems. This car from the start I've always felt like it should have more power but its been adequate enough for me to daily since my day job as an Audi Tech I get to drive everything anyway hehe. Motor suffered valve impact from previous owner. I bought the car originally to fix and flip but the bug bit me.. Picked up a donor motor that had 0 miles (no name tech put the original intake manifold and intercooler from an engine failure that shot metal into the new motor and wiped out the piston tops and cyl head). So I was able to swap new valve springs, retainers, rods, bearings, oil pump etc. Put new oem pistons, both intake and exhaust valves, tons of other new stuff yada yada motors solid.
    The tune is IE K04 93 V.1
    HPA K04 unit crack pressure set to 9psi
    IE Front Mount
    1 step colder plugs gapped to .028, latest coils
    K&N intake
    Fluid Ampr Pulley
    Test pipe w/ ecs full 3in valve open
    South bend light weight flywheel

    Log is a 3rd and 4th gear pull. Falling asleep as I'm typing right now, thanks in advance if anyone is willing to take a look for me.

    Well I measured the exhaust ports in my spare cylinder head and measured 33.89mm with all the carbon in there

    Turbo manifold has a diameter of 35.1mm

    Exhaust manifold gasket has 37.22mm holes

    So it doesn’t seem like the turbo manifold really causes restriction at all

    Idk of opening each running 2.1mm will net a substantial gain in flow

    Trap, what about just porting the wastegate? Have you guys researched any benefits or potential drawbacks to opening up the wastegate port a couple MM’s?

    Porting the wastegate is usually done to help eliminate boost creep, which we don’t really have a problem with on the K04 but I wonder if it will have any other advantages. Or maybe it would actually hurt performance?

    It’s pretty much a borg Warner k04-0064 replica more than it’s a k03-106 / F23L

    It really looks exactly like my loba did. It’s better in some places than the real thing

    Like the TMD/outlet on this has a larger inner diameter than loba did.

    Loba measured 1.5” ID where this is over 1.6”

    Supposedly it helps with back pressure as well, I could see it helping with transient boost response when on and off the throttle. Getting more gasses to recirculate the turbine more quickly

    The ebay link I shared is the mpvi2 with 2 credits for $299.

    This is the cheapest I have found anywhere.

    ECU access is 6 credits and tcu is 4 credits

    Looks like a minimum of $500 plus whatever fee an HPtuners tuner is charging.

    I forget who is getting the custom HPT tune done by someone else.
    Is it possible to have access to make tune changes after the base tune is dialed in by this guy?
    Or does he lock the tune?

    If you’re on ie make sure you flash back to stock first or you’ll get a combined ecu and tcu file and have to pay 8 credits like nano did

    You are incorrect

    Ecu is 2 tcu is 4 for a combined 6 credits to fully unlock a b8

    Yeah make sure you flash back to stock using IE's dongle before reading your ECU with HPT. It will put the ECU and TCU together. I still only paid 4 credits for the ECU because I figured it out. I would have paid 2 only though.

    Your 4th gear boost profile looks good, but your third gear boost profile looks very similar to mine; same can be said for the N75 behavior (minus the throttle blip), which is odd given that you have a 9 psi crack pressure.

    To be honest, I have to agree with Evo - the IE tune seems to be off, as Dat24v makes the 2nd user to see this issue. I don't have the Fluid Dampr Pulley, but we both have aftermarket manifolds which I find interesting. BB-tt ran this tune without issue but was using the original manifold.

    How is your part throttle? Overboost and pulsations?

    That's going to have to wait til I get a new computer. My 10 year old laptop decided to not work anymore. Just going to buy a cheap HP Stream for my car stuff.
