    Vagcom lite interface not found

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Finally got a Vagcom cable, and installed the lite version.

The port shows up. But the interface not found.

Ive tried doing this while connected to my s4. Still no luck. I have tried uninstalling, and reinstalling multiple times. Fire wall is off.

I don’t mind being out $10.00 for the cable. But looking for suggestions before I bite the bullet on full version with the Ross tech cable ..

When you say test different com ports. That just means try different USB ports with the cable? I have done that. I’ve got 3 and 4 to work. (Only 2 USB ports)

I haven’t been able to get port 1 or 2 to work.. not sure why

In device manager, it says the port numbers. But doesn’t have Vagcom in the title line with the port.

You need to config the cable to a specific port in your laptop or it won’t connect.

I have it config currently to channel 4.

Still no luck. I assume it’s probably the cable.

I don’t really see any other configuration that I’m missing.

you need to check the com port assinged to your usb cable (your cable has a serial to usb adapter built in that creates a com port), you check this under device manager, find your cable under com ports and check the assigned port. If it is greater than 4 you will need to right click it go to properties, then go to the "port setting" tabs click advanced button, then change the port to an unused one in the 1-4 range. then set accordingly in vcds lite, also keep in mind when you change usb ports with the cable it also changes the port number assigned, but using the same port will result in the same com port that was assigned to that port.
Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I’ve tried all 4 com ports. On more than 1 USB ports

As well as trying to update USB port drivers, and BIOS updates.

Follow blitz's post directly above yours.

It is a PITA the first time but once you get it configured properly you're done. I have that same cable and it works just fine.

I tried switching ports. Switching the coms on different ports 1 through 4.

It’s definitely a PITA. I’m tempted to try a different laptop. Or a desktop.

Unfortunely I have a MAC with OS X for another laptop :(

What are you using for an operating system on your Mac? Since it won’t run with an apple laptop/ Desktop.

I have a MacBook Air. I’ll need to transfer cable files to a thumb drive from the disk that it came with.

Yes I went to device manager. And I observed which port the cable was plugged into. Then I went to advanced settings, and changed that port #. I did that with all 4 of my USB ports. I tried changing every port # through advanced settings.

if you search over on nefmoto.com there is a list of cables known to work, make sure what you have has the right chip in it

As mentioned you need to set the COM port in the device manager first. Port for USB and COM port are different. From the google..

My serial device requires a specific COM port to function, how do I change this in Windows?
Some serial devices require a specific COM port number to function. In these cases, consult the manual of your serial device to determine the correct number to use.

To change the COM port number of a serial device in Device Manager, complete the following:

Open the Device Manager by pressing the Windows Key + R. Type “devmgmt.msc” and press Enter.
Expand the Ports (COM & LPT) section.
Right-click the COM port and select Properties.
Click the Port Settings tab and click Advanced.
Change the COM port number to an available COM port number.
Note: Multiple serial ports cannot share the same COM port number.

    Restart your computer.
Note: Even if you change the COM port number back to the original number, you still need to restart your computer.

Yes I have done this. I’ve tried all the ports through advanced settings as you mention here.

One thing I didn’t do though is restart the computer after trying different ports. (1-4 of course )

Some of those cables use a different usb/serial chip.
If you have already tried the older FTDI drivers (2.08 or so) and still getting funny icons in the device manager, maybe try this hella sketchy looking driver
    http://www.wch.cn/download/CH341SER_EXE.html

(Its actually legit. A lot of the knockoff arduino stuff uses it because it doesnt detect and ignore clone chips like the newer FTDI stuff does)

Scratch that, looks like you already have that driver installed. Maybe open that thing up and see what chip is in there, it shout say on it.

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.
