Headlight ballast repair or overhaul. Anyone have a recommendation?

I am looking for someone to repair/overhaul the ballasts on my adaptive bi-xenon headlights. Hoping this can be done instead of just buying 2 new ones. I've had some flickering issues lately and want to get it done before the fall. Anyone have a recommendation? Thanks in advance.

Do a search on Audi Chrysler ballast - there is a thread around somewhere that indicated ballast from Chrysler worked on aour Audis but were much cheaper to purchase

Same with Cadillac. I bought 2 used caddy ballast for about $100 total. It will depend if you have the AFS lights though.

From what I looked up in the past, the cheap option that is common to other makes is only for the non-afs models. I didn't think non-afs was an option in North America...

I would also like to know if anyone has any other leads.

That part is way too expensive as it controls the adaptive lights.

Thanks for the info guys. My lights are adaptive and were originally on a B7 S4. My car doesn't have that option but I am guessing I will still need to go with that style ballast. The lights were actually modified with the LED strips from fly300kts but I had reached out to him a while back and he said he wasn't in the headlight business anymore (had a couple LED's fail). Can anyone confirm that the "other brand" ballasts will work with adaptive headlights? I'm going to do some searching now for that old thread.

I have also NOT tried new bulbs yet. What I am experiencing is random bulb flickering where they normally come back on automatically however sometimes I have to turn the headlight switch off and then back on for them to come back on.

The ballasts pictured are not compatible with AFS. If you're looking at eBay listings, the plug on the AFS version is slightly longer.

    Flickering is usually ballasts.

When I needed new ballasts, I went to ebay and searched by part number. There are companies that repair/refurb them and sell them on ebay. Got gen repaired ballasts for $40 each.

From what I have been told, the danger with cheap chinese DS1 bulbs isn't that they might burn out fast, it's that they might damage the ballasts. Here is a list I cribbed of common problems with no-brand chinese or knock-off bulbs:

    1. The quartz tube which houses the arc 'bubble' may not be perpendicular to the mounting base.
    2. The arc bubble itself will almost certainly be malformed
    3. The gas inside the arc bubble may be of an incorrect specification
    4. The salts inside the arc bubble may be of an incorrect specification & quantity
    5. The arc gap between the two electrodes may be incorrect
    6. The return wire from the top electrode may be on the wrong side of the quartz tube
    7. The quartz tube may not be quartz...

Sure. But there is a difference between stuff made in China under a name brand, and with name brand quality controls, and the off/no brand stuff you buy for 10% of retail on ebay, amazon, or aliexpress.
