I think my next mod will be changing some of front to black optic pieces.
Would do the grille, the little bumper grilles and the lower piece and possible the trim piece in rear. Is this something people have done? Also I take it whole front end needs to come off to do?

Yes sir people have done it by ordering the Audi OEM parts from the black optic package. That was on the audiworld forum. The other option you have is have someone paint it professionally locally or try plastic dip depending on the final look you are after.

Yup. I had the window trim and roof rails wrapped gloss black then I plasti-dip'd (gasp) the front and fog light grills. Few coats of black and 2/3 coats of glossifier. Still looks fantastic after 2 years.

Black optics is an OEM option for 2019 so parts will be available soon.

I'd wrap the front trim, buy an OEM BO grill.

Yup. Only wrapped the window trim and roof rails. All the OEM parts are available now and have been since day 1. I think at least Germany or UK had black optics at launch (if you got the right color vehicle).

jerry - there's this thing called a diaper booster that i wasn't aware of until recently. it works for our little guy. perhaps you can give it a shot? =)

I'm so bummed because 2 months ago I had the perfect opportunity to upgrade to black optics and didn't even realize it until it was too late.

My 2014 Q5 3.0T P+ S-Line was hit by a runaway 18 wheeler while parallel parked back in July. The truck driver had pulled his truck over in the breakdown lane to get out and walk to a convenience store and didn't properly engage the breaks. it rolled down the hill, crossed the street, slammed into an old nissan sedan and pushed it square into my front end. Their insurance paid and I got new OEM bumper plus grille and all the other S-Line trim replaced, but I realize now that I could easily have parlayed that bad luck into a black optics upgrade, even if I just paid any difference in cost vs. the OEM/S-Line parts.

Oh well. Going to have the chrome wrapped instead. Local shop does a great job with vinyl wraps and quoted me at ~$400 to do the grille, fog lights, window trim, and roof rack rails.

That really looks great! So you replaced front and rear with black optics parts and rest was done with wraop? Does front and rear bumper need to come off to install ?

Thanks! Much better for sure. I couldnt handle all the silver everywhere. But yes, the front and rear bumper parts are all OEM. I only wrapped the window trim because the rear window has to come fully out to replace the trim and wrapped the roof rails as I just didnt want to have the roof liner dropped and increase the chance for rattles so early in ownership. Yes, the bumpers came off to do both. But a place that knows what they are doing should be able to handle those part swaps in a couple hours or so. The mirror caps are super easy to replace as well if you get the OEM CF ones like mine. I also dropped in the Euro tail lights as well when doing all the changes.

Alex hate to disagree, but the front bumper must come off for both the lower lip trim and and especially for the grille. You know I tried! Possibly if you have a lift you can do the lower lip trim, but no way you're doing the grille without bumper removal.

Europrice is great to work with. Even though I only got my CF mirror caps and tail lights from Alex, he took the time to answer all my questions about the BO install as I tried to DIY. But I gave up and had a shop install everything. I'd work with Alex again any day!

Generally 2-3 weeks from order to delivery, but can vary depending on the exact parts.

Alex hate to disagree, but the front bumper must come off for both the lower lip trim and and especially for the grille. You know I tried! Possibly if you have a lift you can do the lower lip trim, but no way you're doing the grille without bumper removal.

Thanks for the information. The main grille for sure requires of the front bumper. I maybe wasn't clear enough, the lower lip and side grilles only wouldn't need full removal but yes the main center grille for sure requires a full bumper removal.

I would go with gloss black. As far as brand...that I am not good with as I just ask for the color from my shop but I believe they use 3M.

I just wrapped my window trim yesterday actually. 3M 1080 Gloss Black, I have a bigger piece coming in the mail to finish off the rear windows/roof rails. You can get a roll of 2-3" wide vinyl for about $40 IIRC, one roll wrapped my trim and another vehicle.

Has anyone had a successful wrap of the outside mirrors? How about CF wrap on windows & roof bars? (also mirrors)?
