    Winter tire size?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi All,

I recently picked up my B8 S4, and am trying to find a set of winter wheels and tires.

I saw some threads where people say the 255/35/19's are not so great in the snow; and I wouldn't have expected them to be..

Is there any reason I couldn't do the usual 225/45/18's. Skinnier for the snow.. 18's for the sidewall.

What have you guys used on your B8's?

I have always loved the B6 Avus S4 wheels, but ECS tuning says they won't work on my vehicle... Why? it's 5x112..

The B6 wheels won’t work due to the center bore being 57.1 versus our 66.56. I run a set of 18’s with the factory 18” tire size of 245/40/18 I believe it is. They are blizzak we-80’s and do great in snow.

Also interested in this. I'd like to find a rim that allows for a 225 tire. My experience with 255 Michelin X-ice snow tires wasn't the greatest due to the width.

I ran 235s last season with good luck. My brakes won't fit under 18s though so I'm stuck with 19s.

I have run 225/45/18 Michelin X-Ice for the past four Minnesota winters. Traction is outstanding and the car is a tank in the snow and ice. Dry road performance does suffer as the winter tire sidewalls are pretty squishy but overall I'm very happy with that tire and that size. I run them on the stock 18" Audi OEM wheels that my car came with.

Damn, why didn't I think of this...

So basically if I can find a 18" rim with the correct 66.56 center bore, I'm good to go! I'll check out our trusty Canadian version of Tirerack... PMCTire.com

What would the ratio number be for 235 wide on 18? 235/40/18 ?

I like the look of R134A Replika wheels, but the bore is 66.5 instead of 66.56..

My 15 A4 came with the 19" summers, so when it came to dedicated snows.....in the Toronto area, I hit up Allen at Simply Tire and bought the package.....18" RS4 reps with 235/40/18 Michelin XIce. I've had them for 3 winters now.....have 62,000 kms on them....excellent tire!

Well, I found tiresize.com/calculator. It allows you to put in your original tire size (255/25/19), and it will then do the math to tell you alternate sizes in other rim sizes to get the same diameter and other information... Very useful.

This shows 225/45/18 has the same exact diameter, so the speedometer would not change.

235/45/18 is 1/2% bigger with 26.3" diameter, so the speedometer would be slightly slower. Lower km too? ;)
