I just bought a used 2013 A4 less than a year ago. It just hit 100,000 miles, so I expected some service to be needed, but not anything as major as I was told. I brought the car into the Audi Nashville dealership to get a diagnosis on a heavy, much more noticeable downshift at around 20MPH. The car also struggles when it’s in stop-start traffic or parking lots and feels like it wants to lunge forward. If I let off the gas, it lunges back a little too so I can’t “creep” over 5MPH because when I press the gas it feels like it just wants to take off.
After the first visit to Audi, they told me the clutch needed an adaptation and that the fluid levels needed to be adjusted. $300 later, I thought I’d have the issue resolved. Immediately, I felt the same exact issues, but the car felt better. The brake felt more stiff and I thought the issues was basically resolved. Months later I decided I wanted my paint touched up and to revisit the issues I was having to finally resolve them completely. Several hours later I get a call that my car is ready. I ask what needed to be done and I was told my fluid was dark and had metal in it. They said it would “be ideal” to replace my transmission which was quoted to be $13,000... keep in mind I paid $15,000 for the car after tax, so why would I even want to do this on a car I’ve owned for 6 months?
I looked into getting the transmission fluid flushed, but I just need some advice. I can’t afford to replace something that major on a car I’ve put 4,000 miles on.
