Black-Optic Paint Code?

Hey guy,

I've got a 2018 A6 with Black-Optic trim, and one of my mirror caps has a few scratches on it. Rather than spending time and money at a paint shop, i figured I'd get some "touch-up" paint to minimize the appearance of those scratches.

Has anyone found the actual paint code for Black-Optic trim or a suitable substitute?


Alternatively, does anyone have Black-Optic mirror caps they for a 2018 that they'd sell after swapping theirs for carbon fiber?

Sorry, I don't have that answer for you, but it did raise another question for me. You're saying a 2018 A6 with black optics also gets black mirrors. Then why does a 2018 S6 with black optics get body colored mirrors? The body colored mirrors and chrome badges were the first thing I noticed that needed to be changed to black to "complete" the black optics package.

No, I can admit I use to do it regularly with one of my old cars, but I didn't care much at all about the car. I was more pissed about the minor damage to the garage door frame every time and having to repeatedly fix that.

I ended up buying a used set of Phantom Black Pearl mirror housings and while I didn't actually hold them up against the black optic trim to compare, I'm pretty happy with the match.

Don’t know if it’s a 2018 thing, a competition pkg thing or just that S6 doesn’t package mirror color the same. Other than A6 and Quattro badges on trunk - which I removed - there was no chrome on my car at all.

Weird. Same here, no chrome but the badging. Regardless of what package added the black mirrors, it sucks that black mirrors aren't part of s6 black optics or any other package available for the s6.

Update: I ordered DR. ColorChip in Brilliant Black and will report back, specifically noting whether it’s a reasonable match for the black optic mirror color..

Did you ever get a good match to the black optic paint? I'm thinking of painting the mirror covers to match the black optic.

there isnt a paint code for trim. typically only body color.

The competition A6s and RS6s have gloss black mirror covers. They have to be using some paint code.

only way to find out would be a vin, and still it usually only lists exterior paint color from what ive seen. black is black, i wouldnt be too worried about it unless it was metallic or something

A forum member said it was LRN4. However, I could only find touch up paint with that code. I asked on Audi Club NA, and one of them said it was LY9B/A2/Y9B, which is the normal brilliant black. I was just going to go with that, and it aligns with what you're saying that it may not matter too much.

For what it's worth, I replaced my mirror covers with Phantom Black Pearl covers. I don't see any difference between them and the black optics trim and I'd guess a lot of people wouldn't.
