B6 to B7 front end conversion

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys so I got a b6 fairly cheap. And it's a good looking car but I really like the front ends on the B7. Anyways I have read a few threads about the conversion but nothing really specifies what I'll need. And since they are both built on the same platform will everything just "bolt up"?

I know the fenders need to be Frankensteined together for the body lines. But will the hood, bumper bolt up? Do I need a new radiator support? Etc???

Or just leave the car alone, and learn that next time you should buy the vehicle you really want.

It’s been done before, search is your friend. In a nutshell, bodylines are slightly different between B6 & B7 so you’d need to do some bodywork to the front fenders to make it work(nothing extreme).

Ugly, b7 front looks great, but on a b6 it just looks weird IMHO

This doesn’t answer the thread starter’s question, does it?

He should learn to buy the vehicle he really wants? Dude, you sound really self-righteous. It’s like saying those that modify their cars for big power, should have bought cars with the power they’re seeking.

There are many reasons one may graft a B7 nose onto a B6, instead of buying a B7 to begin with.

    Cost.
    Sentimental attachment to their car.
Availability of the parts to do the swap.

Or even better - because they can.

By all means, you’re within your rights to not offer any help or advise, but it’s pretty shitty you telling the guy what he should do instead.

LLtek makes (or used to make) a conversion kit but is looks like a bag of ass.

I have to agree with tjbradney on this. It's been attempted before but there are significant enough differences between the B6 & 7 front ends where it's more difficult than it might first appear.

Trying to covert a B6 into a B7 is probably not worth the money, time and effort and will not look right, imho. If it were me, I'd sell the B6 if possible and then purchase a B7.

That's funny, I like the front end of the b6's better, and the back end of b7's

Rob did a B7 RS4 swap on a B6 S4 avant and it looks effing awesome. (Essentially a B7 front end swap on a b6 as per op's question ) I met him at cars and coffee a while back. He had 30 grand in bodywork into the car for front and rear. The fenders need to be worked to match up. It can be done. And if pulled off, looks nice.

I don't understand the negativity on the forum lately.

Thanks for the input fellas instead of telling me to go buy a b7 like some other aholes. Anyways, reason is I got the b6 dirt cheap, like basically free. So I don't mind sinking a few dollars into it. I do like the front end of the b6, but I do enjoy the big grill and headlights of the b7.

After doing a bit of a search. I guess I more so like the big grille. I wonder if there's just a front bumper replacement that would bolt up with the bigger grille. Instead of replacing the fenders and trying to do a b7 swap.

Personally I like the look. But wow at the price lol! IDK if I can justify spending that much for that. Wonder if there is other options.

USP bumper is what you’re looking for. Bolts right on a b6 but looks way better. Also can mask front between upper and lower grill and paint flat black, makes it look more like a b7 grill from a distance.

There was a hilarious thread about this years ago. The B6 looks great. The b7 looks like a Hyundai from the same time period...imho.

    I'll take a clean b6 over a b7 anyday. That being said I own 3 B6 vehicles and B7 daily. I prefer the B6's all day long

It costs a fortune I got lucky I found a 2006.5 facelift you can check out the difference, it costs quite a bit and it's not a small job.

The "facelift" model came out in 05.5. You bought yourself a B7, not a B6.......unless you changed the ass end as well and put B7 taillights in...... which would be kinda pointless really.

You have to remove the whole front end, have a look there are threads with play by play breaking down and rebuilding it. And you could be in a hole for $2k plus, I agree with others giving advice just buy a aB7 if you really can't live without it, then you got it cheap so you have money to play with but the end result may disappointed, in 2006 facelift they didn't just add the grille, Audi rebuilt the facelift, chassis, tuned suspension plus CR ,12.5:1 compression S4 door wedges this was the 3.2l quattro, Audi only sold these with quattro and 6 speed tiptronic, the RS4 come close to not being offered in 2006, at the last minute they put one out, using chassis, suspension CR. clutch all used from the 3.2l basically the facelift is an RS4 with 2 less cylinders.

I'm not "hating on you", I'm just telling you what I see. You own a base model 2006 B7 A4. Plain and simply. You can call it the facelift model if you want but most people on here know it as or call it a B7. My first Audi was a 2007 B7 A4 3.2L, but I had the S-line not the base model like yours. Scroll through some of my older posts you'll see what I owned then and what I'm driving now. Do a google image search for B7 A4 S-line front bumper. Spoiler alert....It's different than the one your car has. It basically the same as the B7 S4 front bumper. I'm intimately familiar with the differences between the B6 and B7 chassis A4/S4. What does the sticker on the inside of the door jam say?. Should give you a month and year of build. Before this thread got off track the OP was talking about installing a B7 front end onto a B6 chassis. While there's some similarities between the 2 the front and rear ends are not the same.
Not that it makes a difference to the conversation but I live in Canada but was born and raised in NZ... South island, until 15 yrs ago when I moved. You did well choosing the 3.2L. You wont find many aftermarket mods for it but at least you wont have to worry about your turbo shitting itself or your cam follower destroying the head after its worn through. Find yourself a B6 or B7 S4 stock cat back exhaust. Delete the mufflers, install it then have some fun. Sounds decent but no awful drone when highway or round town driving. Give it some gas and it wakes up.
