Motor mount failure on 2013 S6

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just brought in my 2013 S6 for 35k mile maintenance and the mechanic discovered that my mounts needed replacing. Problem is that I bought an extended warranty through Endurance in May but the adjuster came and determined through the ecu that it was damaged/leaking in March... how easy of a diy is this or is it ok to just drive it without replacing them right away? Just need some options cause this job is costing an arm and a leg when I literally just bought an extended warranty for problems like this 🤦🏻*♂️

Get use to it!! Lol, these Audi motor mounts go all all the time no matter what model. I have a 2012 a7 and have replaced both sides maybe 3 times with less then 50k miles, a decent shop will change them out for less then 400 bucks, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet my friend.

I wish it was 400! The shop is charging me about 1600 for parts and labor.

I thought S6 mounts were around $600/ea? Either way I think they are at least twice as expensive as A7 mounts.

88K on my 2012 A6 and they have never given me any issue, no codes, never replaced. However, As preventative maintenance, I am installing the 034 Density line mounts since I will be dropping the subframe for a test pipe install. I'm Not sure if 034 offers these for the S6 but it may worth looking into as an upgrade and to save $.

72k miles here and have replaced the mounts twice (once it's driver side only, other times are both sides).
Also, it never throw any codes or anything, car was in for service and dealer noticed and replaced under warranty.

Just finished up 35k maintenance under audi care on my 2015 S6 as well (cars only at 26k today) - my service advisor did a great job in identifying any issues and replacing which included the motor mounts. The invoice noted a bunch of customer statements (which i didnt make) for each diagnosis. Thought i would share in case anyone needed to use at their dealership to get something looked at:

Replaced Transmission Pan Gasket - "Customer states oil leaking from under the engine area, oil burning smell from front of car when engine is warm"

Replaced Engine Mounts - "Customer states engine runs rough at idle, front end of car vibrates at idle" (this one I did ask him based on the RPM test noted in forums)

Replace Lower Control Arm Links - "Customer states in and out of driveways, front end suspension clunks and makes a popping sound when wheels are turned"

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for all the advice and input guys! I just decided to get the work done... the shop is charging me 620 for each side and 820 for the labor which totals a bit over 2k just figure I have to bite the bullet this time but any other major work will be done under warranty at least

It's frustrating seeing all this complexity over what should be a simple motor mount. All because of 4-cyl mode that saves what, maybe 0.1 mpg? No way in hell the minuscule amount of fuel saved is worth it.

Audi should have recalled these, German engineering at it's finest.

To all the repetitive failure posters: Do you use your engine start/stop feature often?

I am trying to correlate if the high failure rate can be due to the frequent cranking during these on/off cycles.

Most likely due to 4 cylinder mode which happens quite often.

Wow, I'm surprised the adjuster actually scanned the car for fault codes.
Word of advice... get an OBDEleven or VagCom cable and scan/delete any old codes, so if they reappear now, it'll be stamped with today's date before you engage your warranty company for future claims :)

C7 A6, both engine mounts collapsed, and all upper control arm bushings torn (probably due to vibration) at 30k miles. Ridiculous.
$1500 to replace motor mounts, $900 for control arm bushings. No codes thrown, but car vibrated like a diesel truck. This sort of "engineering" is complete idiocy.
    Thank God for warranty.

Add me to the list. Started noticing a clunking noise and thought it was suspension, not confirmed yet, but was informed me or mount leaking. Luckily both are getting replaced under extended warranty.

Be aware that the front end clunk is usually diagnosed as a motor mount issue or control arm issue incorrectly. Well the motor mounts do go way too fast and a scan will prove that however make sure the cross brace under the plenum is checked. I chased my clunking issue for a long time which was fixed after speaking with the lead tech within 15 mins...for free.

Check out this thread for reference:

No issues on my 2016 A7 with 55k miles. I think they changed the motor mounts on the facelift A6/A7s.

Anyone know if there is a updated part number for these mounts? My driver side just broke and I'm about to replace both of them but just wanted to confirm the part numbers before I order the parts. Also stealership was recommending to replace both sensors as well, is that true or can you re-use the old ones. Thanks.

Good to see there's been a revision. Do you happen to have any info on whether there have been updates to the C7 A6/A7 mounts? I'm getting ready to replace mine and would consider sticking with OEM if there's a revision, otherwise may try the 034 mounts.

    Hi guys,

I suspect my engine mounts are also gone. Could you guys let me know if my symptoms are the same?

    - At idle, there is a slight jerk when changing to Manual or Sport mode from Drive mode
    - At start up, the car jerks forward

The jerk or bump I am referring to does not happen while driving or when gear changing. I only notice this while stationary. Interestingly, there is also no or very little jerk if the car is on an incline. I think this is because the weight of the motor is pushing against the mount.

    Thoughts please?

FYI I own an 2013 RS6 Avant but I believe the mounts are the same as an A6 and RS7.

My 2012 A7 has the original mounts at 205,000 miles. I have the motor out for timing chains at the moment so I will be changing them when the engine goes back in. Neither is leaking but the passenger side is showing signs of dry rot and the driver side is starting to tear. I don't want to go after them later when I have the perfect opportunity now.

Most folks report having a rough idle just sitting at rest when one of their mounts gives out. If you have a vagcom cable and vcds, you can test the motor mounts by making them vibrate with the engine off in accessory mode, and with the windows down. You should hear a fairly loud vibration from each side separately. If one of them is much quieter than the other, then the quiet mount is malfunctioning, likely due to fluid loss. You can of course check for any codes, but lots of folks with defective mounts som’t seem to have any error codes.

Just an fyi, FCP Euro has lifetime warranty on parts they sell. People have been returning engine oil and filters and have been reimbursed (may not be worth it if shipping is too expensive). But, for a more expensive part(s) it might be worth a look.

Including this thread, there are so many others regarding motor mounts. How the hell weren't these recalled and given a warranty for this specific issue?? Would the complaints be sent to the NHTSA? I have 2017 A7 and anticipating the mounts to go between the 60-85k mark, only time will tell.

You could try but it is maybe not really considered a NHTSafetyA thing. Since failed mounts do not cause any safety related issue. Many drive for long periods with them completely broken and some don't even know. If the mounts somehow separated causing the motor to fall out or if their failure stopped the car cold on the highway then maybe the NHTSA would sit up and take notice. Sadly weak motor mounts have been issues on Audi's long before this. It is up to Audi to address, but in my 20+ years with Audi's they have not. Some people get 200k+ miles, others (myself included), get less than 30k so of course it will be blamed on the driver and driving style. Audi likely has better stats than just an enthusiast forum and of course will say there is no need for a voluntary recall if their stats indicate that most drivers do not have a failure. Plus if fails outside of warranty they may not care at all. IMO Audi uses soft mounts to allow for the smoothness associated with a Premium luxury brand, but then advertise Sport and if you drive in a sporting fashion you risk damaging the soft/weak mounts. It is a shame, I understand, but sadly part of Audi ownership. Thankfully there is an aftermarket that recognizes these types of issues and sometimes offers solutions. (Ex: 034 solid mounts)

Def understand Audi's point of view, why fix it if we don't have to. Regardless, still a shitty situation for guys who end up having to replace them.

I'm still curious to see how that will work on an S6 motor mount without a re-code to disable CoD. I don't think 034 answered that question when asked.
Speculation on....If they completely remove the magnetic motor structure or encase it in rubber either way when CoD is active without the active mounts I can only foresee issues varying from a mildly annoying vibration to the occupants to an outright nauseating experience that would generate far to many complaints to not address or abandon the product altogether. If the resistors/connectors to prevent errors also automatically disable CoD then I could see that as a viable option or perhaps simply a disclaimer stating they must be used in conjunction with a CoD disable tune otherwise higher levels of NVH may occur. I don't know, just speculating. Not trying to knock 034 (I own several of their products) but the teaser was made as "almost here" 3 months ago on a now 7-8 year old platform. Where is the latest update...even if good or bad news?

U have a A7 or S7? They are different mounts for the A and S cars. I could've bought the old revisions which were in stock but why do that when they when the latest mount for the S6 came out on July 1 2020.
