You know the new a8 is gonna be a mild hybrid with both a 12v system and a 48volt system as well.Thats gonna be a learning experience on its own.You sure you want to deal with the headaches unreliability you claim all their engines have???

The basis of the Audi 55 TFSI is the EA839 with the Continental P0 mild hybrid system. The P0 system, while unproven, is really made up of a 48V system + Lithium Ion battery in the truck with a BAS. It's not really that complex. I'll take my chances with the P0 system, but the critical part of this car is the EA839 engine.

Some of us come from an engineering background, and while I've worked in the automobile engineering field, I'm not as stupid as some may believe. I've done my homework. I know what risks I will take (the P0 system is one of them), and what I won't take (the EA839 engine seizures).

Maybe I'll use an analogy you can understand. Hot blond with cancer and a new handbag. Are you willing to deal with the hot blond with cancer even though she has an unproven handbag, or would you rather know the hot blond is fine with an unproven handbag?

    Clear as mud?

So your the magic wizard with all the wrong answers and calculations well no wonder these things are fucking up left and right.

A8 only comes in 2 flavors both of which are unacceptable risks to you.Because their engines are “Unreliable”.

Those engines that have issue with ringlands are newer engines buddy not CAEB engine code.

Why would the dealer not talk to them? They get paid by AoA regardless of the outcome.

He just said an A5 and a Q5. I’m guessing it’s an S5 and an SQ5 because an S5 came in with a blown engine a few days before mine.

I wonder why nobody is disclosing their engine (in trouble) serial number.

Would like to check how close they are from mine!

On engine serial numbers, it might be useful to take a picture (or just make a note) from the one in our own car.

    Just in case...

I had been trying to decide between the A5 and S5 based on which engine should be more reliable, so that complicates things.

I had my dealer change my oil at 1,000 miles. I’m thinking that was a good idea! I’m going to do another change at 6,000 miles and just keep doing it every 5,000. Worth it especially since I paid for Audi Care . I feel like I broke it in right because I seem to get very good mileage. Time will tell, only 4,200 miles!

Well I didn’t pay anything for the first one but I believe that was included anyway. They rotated my tires for me as well for free. I think what they will do is just run/write up the next one as the 10,000 mile service so I won’t have to pay, and then the next the 20,000 mile, etc until whatever I paid for runs out (3 years). That’s what all other dealers have done for me in the past. I most likely won’t keep this for more than 2-3 years but I still want to take care of it regardless. It’s wrapped, too 🤦🏻*♂️ somebody will get a nice CPO car LOL.

I normally spend far less on a car than I can truly afford, but I buy and keep for a significant period of time (> 5 years), so I don't want something that will become a reliability headache. Given Audi's spotty record of new engine reliability, my decision will likely be made by whether I'm confident that the new 3.0T won't be terribly unreliable. Also, the A5 is reasonably quick, so it isn't like downgrading to a Prius.

If your experience is purely with Audi, I'd concur, but my MB is happily out of warranty and now approaching the 7.5 year, worry free. That said, Audis, in Canada, can have their warranty extended up to 10 years, or 200,000km, for only another $6K (for the A8).

For a more expensive and high end car like the A8, I'd agree, but I'd happily mitigate the risk and pay for the extended warranty.

I've had an Audi for four years out of warranty and spent less than $1000 on repairs. From a pure cost perspective, trading cars every four years will be far more costly, on average, than owning for a few more years outside of warranty. I understand your point for an extremely complex $>100k car, but an A4, or even an S4, is not exactly an exotic. Owning outside of warranty doesn't scare me that much because I can go out and replace the car whenever I want if it were to destroy itself.

I prefer to trade in my cars before they are worthless. Hate paying for repairs.

Just like buying a car in the first place, or owning a car even within warranty is still like playing the lottery.

Some people will blindly just play the game, and others will choose to try and have a better hand, neither is right of course, and both types of players are exercising their right to play as they please.
