Help me decide on the best used SQ5 (2014-2016)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi All,

I am a few months out from getting a SQ5 and want to ensure i get the best year/options possible.

I am trying to find one under 35K and i am prepared to fly out and drive home if needed.

    Ideally i want:

    • Black Exterior / Black interior
    • Prestige package
    • Black sport seats with bolsters (ive seen 2016's with the diamond stitched leather. I would love this)
    • flat bottom steering wheel

Is there a better year to focus on from 2014-2016? Is there a list of updates released from 2014 -> 2015 -> 2016?

    Thanks!!!

There is a tiny sliver of me considering selling mine since I don't drive it often anymore, just sits in the garage. But when I do, it brings me so much joy.

    White exterior/brown interior
    Prestige
    Still under CPO status.
    Few mods
    New tires, and front pads/rotors
    Winter tire/wheel package
    OEM hitch

What is it about the Prestige trim that makes it a must-have? Anything other than the cupholders and auto-adjusting headlights? As you've probably noticed, there aren't that many out there. However, what was much more popular was Premium Plus w/ Nappa leather. If that's a consideration for you, I think you'll find significantly more inventory. Good luck...

I recommend you check out both the PP and Prestige models and compare the seats. The sport seats are standard in the PP but are not ventilated. The Prestige comes with more standard (non-sport) seats with no thigh bolsters but are ventilated. Seats are the most important part of a car IMHO so your comfort should be a priority especially on a long trip/commute. Ventilated seats are nice in summer but more of a luxury that I can do without. The Prestige also has rear sunshades that can be raised and lowered - also nice but not necessary (I plan on getting mine tinted). I have a 2015 PP myself after looking at both. Wife was not happy with the level of comfort in the standard seats in the Prestige. Good luck in your search and do your research before making a trek to the car dealer.

I would have loved to have the ventilated option (had them in my Lexus), but the sport seats were a must have for me. They are so much nicer (and sportier, obviously) than the luxury seats. I couldn't care less about the adaptive headlights (also had them in my Lexus), the rear sun shades and the heated/cooled cup holders, so Prestige was not really on my radar (very hard to find a Prestige without luxury seats). Adaptive cruise would be cool, but once again- hard to find a Prestige with sport seats.

The only things that really changed between the 1st gen SQ5s were minor cosmetic things (like the door handle accents) and slight differences with the BO packages.

    I'd shop...
    - sport seats
    - fine nappa (bonus if it has diamond stitching too...only '16-'17)
    - tech package
    - B&O stereo

If you PM me your e-mail, I can send you the '15-'17 order guides.

The option packages changed from year to year. For instance, you could get NAV and/or B&O separately. Then, the "Tech Package" included both.

If I recall correctly the 2014 to 2017s were made in Germany. The 2018s are the ones coming out of Audi’s mexico plant.

Checked out my window sticker and now I'm a little confused on the seat options. I have a 2014 prestige that lists, "Leather/Alcantara sport seats" as a standard option, but included a $1500 upgrade for Fine Nappa Leather Seats. The upgraded seats are not ventilated. It lists heated seats under the standard equipment so I presume the original sport seats weren't ventilated either. Were ventilated seats available on the 2014?

Here are the Prestige package options that are listed....Side Assist, Adaptive Headlights, Rear Sunshades, Thermo Cupholder, B&O Sound System, MMI Navigation Plus, Audi Connect, Parking System Plus w/Rear View Camera

Leather/alcantara sports speats were standard. Nappa leather was a $1500 upgrade on P+ and Prestige models, and if I recall correctly, only applied to the sport seats. The ventilated seats were only available on Prestige trim, and indeed lacked the adjustable front bolsters. Some folks find them more comfortable as they're less sculpted. I've not seen an SQ model with ventilated seats, but actually got to sit in a Prestige Q5 so-equipped. Not to my taste, but I can see how they might be more comfortable on long drives.

FWIW, IMO, yada yada.... having lived with lesser counterparts on earlier vehicles, B&O audio and Nappa are well worth including on a 'must have' list.

As Jerry said, ventilated seats were only available on Prestige trim with the optional Comfort Package that included Milano leather seats. Most opted for the Nappa package because it was cheaper, sportier option and that Nappa leather is buttery.

The luxury package (milano, ventilated seats) was an option on PP and Prestige. The only option special to the Prestige was the Driver's Assist package...at least for '15-'17. Also, there's no such thing as a 'comfort package'. The order guides are pretty easy to find, but once again- I have them if anyone is interested.

Only looked at 2014 order guide. Cheeky Audi changed package name and made it available on PP '15-'17.
