As far as brand reliability - top notch. Does it have all the channels you need?

Depends on how I want to run my audio. It’s six channels so I could have it run my fronts/ rears and sub if I use the speaker component crossovers.. or I can use it to to power my front highs and mids separate and the mids in the rear then another amp to run a sub... I don’t need a lot of base want more SQ then anything.. and I want my trunk space so thinking of running a free air sub in the rear deck.. or a sub inclosure in one of the side compartments.. I really love the quality and sound image dynamics put out but I don’t think they make a free air sub.

Keep in mind, the Helix P series amplifiers come in 6 and 8 channel versions. Plus they both have a line output for a separate subwoofer amplifier....

    Very flexible

Yes the one I’m getting is the6 channel one .. and yes that’s one of the reasons I’m getting it is that it’s very flexible and the DSP from what I read is on point! Plus I can’t pass up the price it’s brand new never used as well all still boxed up!

If you can get one for a decent price, grab it. I used to have a Helix DSP and it was a great piece of equipment. Really easy to use once you get the hang of it, the software is really nicely set up and the manufacturer updates it a lot of the times based on user feedback. I have used a JBL MS8, Audison Bit One.1, Alpine PXE-H650 and now a Mini DSP 8x12 and the Helix software is by far the nicest to use.

Why don't you use pioneer? Best brands regarding performance but price bit high than the others

Yeah not to big on pioneer nothing against the brand just opt for others like image dynamics.. Xtant....I’m actually
Trying to find out when image dynamics is putting out there shallow mount sub the thing would work great with my idea on what I want to do.

    IMG_6611.jpg

Still working on my head unit and speakers head unit I’m thinking about alpine Ine w928 but it’s laking Apple play.. but everything else is on point plus it’s 8inch screen so it will fill in nicely with no huge bezel pieces on the side.. and for speakers I’d love to find this brand I use to use caked AVI but I can’t find them anywhere .. so maybe stick with image components or maybe focal or hertz...?

If you are looking for a shallow mount sub, take a look at the Stereo Integrity BM MKV.

Looks sexy! But it looks like it only comes in a 12 and I don’t think you can fit a 12 in the stock sub hole.. my idea is have a 10 mounted there and have a MDF board along the underside of the rear deck. And then I’ll have the bottom of the box that can be mounted and Unmounted when I need more trunk space. The reason I’m wanting to do this is the hopes that I have great base when the box is in and then when I drop the lower part of the box it will act as a free air sub still giving me bass.. I know it won’t perform efficiently but at least my bass won’t be completely gone... unless my thinking is way off and wrong.. ohh and the reason I don’t put a sub enclosure in the side pouches is because I use the one and a air compressor is going in the other.

So anyone have any preference of speakers they use? I’m most likely going to run a active system. Fronts using stock tweeter location and 6.5 in the front doors then just 6.5 maybe 8’s in the rear doors and tweeters in the stock position .. then a 10-12 in the stock sub position but having a box sealing it in the trunk that’s removable when I need trunk space. But since the sub will be in the stock position it would still allow me to run it just free air.( think this idea would work?) I’m leaning towards hertz speakers and image dynamic shallow mount sub when it comes out..

I run SEAS Prestige 27TAFNC tweeters, Stereo Integrity TM65 MK2 in the doors, and Dayton RS75 mounted in the kick panels. Depending on how much you want to spend there are a ton of options out there, I have heard nothing but good things about Audiofrog speakers, a pair of GB60 would work in the front doors along with the GB15 tweeters. Running active though you can look for raw drivers on places like Madisound and Parts Express and pick pretty much anything you want.

If I were you I would skip the rear speakers at least initially, you may find that you don't need it.

Your idea with the sub would work in theory, but you would want to find a sub that works well in both a sealed and free air set up, not sure how many subs are out there that can do both. I would consider just getting a sub that works well in the free air configuration and skip an enclosure.

How do you like the SI gear? I'm thinking of using the same in my s4 and maybe illusion audio c3cx in the dash and just disconnect the stock b&o tweeters. Would the si tm65 be an upgrade over the the b&o 8" in the front doors?

As for the bm mkv, I have no doubts it's likely a great sub. With an ideal box vol of 0.5-0.7 and extension to 20hz (I read somewhere) it should fit nicely in a side trunk pocket. I have never heard it, but I use two SI ht18s in a dual opposed 8cuft sub I use as an end table in the living room. I've also had the pleasure of hearing all their big subs in various home theater arrangements and they've all been stellar.
Actually, one guy had two bhs 24s in a 6th order in his Tahoe with the port directly behind the driver's head. He offered rides to demo so we went out on the interstate. Even wearing-30db ear muffs, it was loud, violent and felt like my soul was being sucked from my chest. Just bonkers

I'm very happy with the TM65, debating swapping my Dayton RS75 for the new 3" mids they just released, the owner Nick is a really great guy as well.

I don't know how the TM65 would compare to that B&O 8" to be honest, it's (the TM65) a great speaker for sure, but if I could fit an 8" then I likely would have tried to get a pair of JL ZR800s for midbass. Heard a pair in a friend's Camry doors and they are incredible.

I don't own any of the subs, but have listened to them in at least half a dozen cars and always been impressed with them. If I ever kill my MB Quart then it's likely I would end up with one or two of the subs.

I bet that living room set up is awesome!

Nick is great guy, we've hung out at a few avsforum get togethers over the years.

Those JLs look nice, but not sure they'd fit in my doors without modifications though I'm not sure what the depth limitations are. I've read of a few people using the audison ap8 with good results. I was thinking I may not need the low end from an 8" in the door if I got a sub. Any thoughts are appreciated.

A friend is running Illusion Audio ND8's in his S4, think those are pretty shallow though. I took a quick look and it sounds like there is not much mounting depth in the S4 doors. Makes life a little harder for sure.

You could get away with a 6.5" instead of the 8" in the doors and use a sub to fill in the low end without any issues. That's what i and many others do. I have the TM65 crossed at 80Hz, but could go to 70Hz without any problems, except for more rattles in the door! The subwoofer picks up everything below that.

Take a look at the Audio Development W800neo woofers. I have them in my S4 doors.

The illusions are pretty pricey for the newer 8", those must be an older model as I can't find much about them.

I'm not opposed to going with a 6.5", but I'm in a loaner now (new A4) with what I assume are 6.5" door speakers and it sounds like crap compared to my b&o system. Much less weight to everything. Think the b&o dsp makes a big difference too.

Those are pretty beastly! Did you have to modify the door at all to fit them? They run off the factory amp or aftermarket? Lastly, only prices in seeing for them are around $500/pr, that about right?
