Cost to go from stage 1 to stage 2 as far as tuning goes? (Pulley and removal not included in upgrade price)

It's 100 dollars and it give you all octane files. I'm running the stage 2 now on 100 octane file and couldn't be happier. Haven't run against any other stage 2 cars yet so I cant comment on the performance of the tune, but so far no issues and the car idles and runs a heck of a lot better.

It sounds very interesting. I wonder how this compares to the competitors EPL, APR, GIAC, Unitronic, etc.

I've been really happy with my IE stage 2 and TCU tune. I was GIAC stage 1, stage 2 and then dual pulley tunes with their TCU tune as well. Was never really happy with the performance that my car was doing with GIAC (separate thread on here with my stage 2 woes). I hated the TCU tune the most. It was just too harsh for the shifting in Dynamic mode and too lax in Comfort. IE's TCU tune for our cars makes everyday driving in any mode smooth and responsive. Power from the IE stage 2 is much better than the previous tune stage 2 that I had. I know a lot of that has to do with my 179mm crank pulley. But aside from some loss of low to mid range torque (which I miss) from the GIAC dual pulley tune, the car is performing close to if not better than the dual pulley file I had. Best time on GIAC DP was a 11.9 @ 114 while IE Stage 2 on the 179mm pulley was 12.1 @ 113. The GIAC times were run in the spring with cooler air and the IE times were run in 70F temps last month. With cooler air I would be able to get the 11.9 times. All on 93 octane files.

Plus I get to tune at home whenever I want and change files whenever I want.

Yeah I do like the benefit of being able to tune at home. If I was going to go with a tune I would be leaning more towards of EPL. The conveniency of being able to tune at home and I guess the overtake value of the product. Plus it seems to be very reputable around the forums. I was just very curious in the past of this product and didn’t think much of it at the time but now that it’s popping back up again, it’s caught my attention.

I was ready to pull the trigger on an EPL tune when I started research on IE. A lot of the guys I work with like their stuff on the VW side. Aside from waiting on the dual pulley tune they are releasing, I've been very pleased.

I was going to be conservative and go straight from stock to stage 2 but only do the single pulley not the dual. Daily drive my car about 70-75 miles round trip so I’m racking up a lot of miles on my car just to go to work and back. Already put on 23k miles in just a little over a year and I got my s4 last July lol. I was on their website and I saw the stage 2 software was about $1100, and was wondering where you would go to find I guess a kit? For the pulley and the removal tool and how much it would cost.

Has IE alluded to any timeline on a release date for a dual pulley tune? I've been trying my best to keep up-to-date, but maybe I certainly could have missed something. Any info would be appreciated!

Consider going with a crank pulley, modest size, maybe 179-183mm range, rather than supercharger pulley. No special puller tool or oven heating. Better belt support and eliminates the known OEM crank pulley risk of failure. You can probably install it without having to put the car in service position. I did not have to when installing the JHM 179mm on my Q5. I believe the dimensions from pulley to fans and radiator are identical.

For a daily driver stage 2 is perfect. And you don't have to worry about cooking the cats as fast or at all. I went for the CTS supercharger pulley when I went stage 2 and had a local shop install it because I wasn't messing with toaster ovens and that such lol.... They charged me 3 hours of labor for the install. But if you go for a 179mm or 180mm crank pulley that will get you the ratio for stage 2 with out the PITA of having to get that supercharger pulley out. Putting the crank pulley on is much easier than the supercharger pulley.

I haven't heard about their dual pulley tune release yet. I have been in contact with them and they were looking into getting me the tune ahead of time since I'm already set up for dual pulley. But hopefully they release more info soon.

That was another thing that came across my mind. Not to beat a dead horse on another forum but the cats were a known problem for failure and that’s another reason why I wanted to stay conservative and just do a single pulley. I believe if you just do a single pulley you don’t need to swap out for a bigger FMIC correct?

The cats are definitely a weak point on these cars. Even with a stage 1 depending on how you drive they can cook. Stock cooling on stage 2 is fine for daily driving, but I would at least do the coolant pump mod. If you track the car I would recommend the bigger heat exchanger at least.

Definitely not tracking the car anytime soon.... I think lol but will definitely look into upgrading the coolant pump.

Don't most tunes include the coolant pump mod?

We've been working on making the pedal smooth, basically once you get over a certain boost level that double pulley's produce we were experiencing a problem with 1/2 throttle being equal to full throttle and that's simply not acceptable for us. Local beta double pulley car just got pulled off the dyno yesterday and appears to have that fixed and smoothed out, now it's just to go over all the octanes again at sea level and high altitude. I don't want to make any promises on dates but if everything goes well, I'm projecting a few weeks for release.

Thank you both for your replies! I appreciate it.

Damon, are you able to give us any idea on the approximate retail price point of a dual pulley file once it's released? Or will we need to wait on that information as well?

I was considering about upgrading my intercooler system. Heard good things from AWE and this one company AMS as well. However, it’s kind of hard to ignore APR’s intercooler especially since it’s significantly priced less compare to AWE and AMS.

if I install Stage 1 IE Performance Tune does it effect my warranty? do I need to do any hardware change? I am just a daily driver and not going to track the car anytime soon.

I was doing the math and compared to the two brands. EPL and IE from stock to a jump of stage 2 with the cost of the software and the necessary hardware, IE comes out to be around $400 cheaper.

Now the obvious question.......Can it be resold?
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

The flash loader is locked to the car's VIN. So, you really can't just sell the tune.

The flash cable can flash up to 5 different VIN's, and log and clear codes for as many as you wish. Tunes once flashed are locked to that VIN, we do not offer any kind of transfer at this time.
