    Backup Camera Wiring Harness

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok, so my backup camera finally gave up on me, and I'd like to start by replacing the wiring harness that connects to the control module... but I can't seem to find the Audi part number for that harness, and the guy at the dealership wasn't any help. He was suggesting me to buy the entire interior wiring harness.

Of all of the threads I've read, I didn't see one that had a part number listed. Can anyone help me source the part number for the backup camera?

Kufatec has the wiring harness specifically for the backup cameras. Not too expensive either.

There may be some helpful info in a couple of these threads (and links to other threads within them). Sometimes simply reseating connections involved can restore the camera to working condition. It's certainly worth considering before throwing money at new parts. (In one of the related posts, I had mentioned: "Just looked at an Audi parts site and the "Control Module" (Parking Aid Camera) they have is "8R0907441D", with a $360 MSRP. Next, the camera itself, with the deck lid handle/switch is listed as part 5N0827566C, and has an MSRP of $463." Anyway, let us know what you ultimately find out to be the problem with yours.

Looks like sixty Euros, that's not too bad. I was hoping to get it stateside, hopefully in the next few days. I'll definitely keep Kufatec in mind though.

Thanks, yeah, I read those post. and a few more... I found part numbers for the camera and the module, but not for the harness itself.

Damn, I have the box that mine came in in my garage at home with the P/N on it. Too bad i'm on the opposite side of the world. I just called my local Audi dealer and they found the part- its labeled as Coax or Fiber optic cable from the trunk camera to the module in the trunk

When you get back, if you can let us know what the actual part number is, that would help others who may reference this thread in the future, seeking help with camera issues. And if the OP could verify that replacing that part resolves his problem, that would be helpful as well.

Why are you so sure that it’s the wiring harness? The wires are insulated copper, which doesn’t go bad very often. Although if you lower the car too much one of the rear wheels (I don’t remember which one) can rub the wires.

I’d begin with checking all the connections like mentioned above. And then I’d visually check the wires before buying a new harness.

My 2012 did not come with it because of the camera shortage. I picked up the camera and module with mount used on EBAY but need a harness. In for harness as this is still on my list of things to do, now that I have VAG so I can code if need be.

I had an intermittent issue with the rear camera not appearing in the display when in reverse. Audi replaced the wiring harness (part 8k0971086d, $54 on genuineaudiparts.com) and no issues since.

Thanks for sharing the part number. https://www.jimellisaudiparts.com/pr...K0971086D.html also has this part for $54, and here's a pic of what it looks like, for those who may be interested:

I don't know which harness he is talking about- but the part I replaced was the fiber optic cable that runs from the camera, through the trunk panel, down the trunk support, and into some big box/module in the pass side trunk panel. I had intermittent reverse cam on my 2010 and it ended up being that fiber optic cable.... that is the part # I have

Thought that part looked a bit too short to go from the camera connection all the way into the control unit behind the right hand cubby in the trunk. So there are apparently 4 components that make up the rear view camera as follows:

Camera Control Module (Parking Aid Camera controller) part #8R0907441D

Camera Unit (integrated with the trunk lid handle/switch) part #5N0827566C

Camera Harness (connects Camera Unit) to the coax "extension" cable (described just above) part #8K0971086D

Camera extension cable Part # ???

Now all we need to know is the part number for that coax/fiber optic extension cable!

Because VagCom shows open circuit, and the harness that connects to the module seemed to be the most common issue of all of the post I had found. I ended up going with Kufatec yesterday afternoon before the part number was found.

I'll Edit my original post to have the question and answer in the same post so people won't have to scroll through all of the responses.

Thanks for all of the input!

Thanks for the update. That Kufatec harness appears to have the connectors that plug into the camera control module in the trunk cubby, and match the color coding of the connectors that are plugged into the module in my 2011 S4. Their website shows a part number for this "harness" as follows: Item No.: 36106, EAN: 4250363308879. Here's what the cables on the harness look like on the Kufatec website:

Here's a pic of the camera connectors at the control module in my S4 (see the gray and green connectors):

Before you take everything apart, you might want to disconnect and reseat these two connectors at the camera module if you haven't already done so, just in case it's an intermittent or poor connection at the module. Removing the trunk liner will take more time than checking these two connections, so it may be worth trying.

Those are FAKRA connectors, and more info on them here. Also saw this on one of the earlier related threads ...

Finally, here's one more thread that offers advice on removing FAKRA plugs that should be helpful.

    Hey all,

I had the backup cam flickering/ working periodically issue on my 2011 last winter and found that giggling the green/grey FAKRA plugs mostly fixed it. It slowly got worse - working 70% of the time, then about 50% of the time, until the screen started flickering out every time before I was done backing up. Now, the back up camera doesn’t even show on MMi at all. Obviously I tried giggling cables again, disconnected and reconnected, etc and haven’t had any luck getting it back.

Has anyone had they’re camera completely stop projecting onto the mmi screen? This seems like more than a cable issue, or that something got completely disconnected. Although it seems unlikely that something came disconnected because again it gradually got worse. Please let me know how you were able to fix yours if you did. Trying to avoid taking it to Audi.

P.S. sorry in advance for reviving an old thread (again). It’s not my first time

    Thanks,

As I mentioned in one of the previous threads on camera issues, I had an issue with the screen flickering and then simply cutting off before I was done backing up. That was back in 2014 or 2015 (if I recall correctly) and since the car was still under (an extended) warranty, my Audi dealer replaced the control module to fix it. I never had it fail completely, but the flickering was happening so often that it rendered the backup camera function mostly useless and frustrating. I do remember that a VCDS scan of the car showed the intermittent camera faults. Have you scanned your car to verify that the camera is showing faults? If not, take that step and let us know what fault code (if any) you are getting. That may help narrow down the problem.

My laptop actually broke a year or so ago right around the time I got a work laptop. Of course we aren't allowed to download outside software and what not and I just havent bought a new laptop yet. Long story short - havent scanned.

Oddly enough, the day I got back there and disconnected/ reconnected the grey&green wires it didn't work - but yesterday when I left work (in absolute pouring rain) the camera pulled up immediately and there was no flickering. Same story this morning, it works without issue.

There definitely are much worse electrical gremlins for a car to have... so I guess I can live with it. As long as it is working at the time I sell it (hopefully long ways away) I can deal.

    Thanks!

Had this flicker issue and got it fixed when the car was still under warranty but the issue came back. So I took it back but this time without a warranty and they wanted $900 to replace the module. After looking through forums someone mentioned pulling on the green and purple wires and trying to reconnecting them. Oddly enough when I went to do it, I noticed that there was a third wire that was not connected. I’m assuming the dealership did that and never bothered to put it back. I tried to connect it but couldn’t. So i just jiggled the purple and green wires a bit and everything has been working perfectly since.

I had a similar issue. Rolling picture and eventually it went black.

My problem was not the connectors in the fuse location but the connectors near the camera itself.

I think I closed the trunk too hard one day.

My issue was solved by smacking the trunk liner near the camera a few times and I have been closing the trunk gently now and it’s been working fine.

I was about to pull the liner but thought I’d try that first and so far so good.
