Has anyone done the Q5 front caliper upgrade?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I noticed ECS is selling the 4 pot brembo Q5 calipers with S4 rotors as an OEM upgrade option. Looks like it bolts up without any adapters and uses the stock lines. Anyone done this upgrade to their B7? Care to report on the results?

Yea there are threads about this upgrade. ECS’s pricing is outrageous.

You can get comparable rotors for $100/ea and the calipers, used on eBay for $200/ea, probably less. The rest of the stuff is not worth the extra $700 they’re charging as the stock q5 brembos (came on the 3.0t and tdi models I think?) bolt right up.

There’s a thread on this very upgrade.

Pretty much all the info you need is here:

    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ght=Q5+caliper

Very easy, pretty much direct bolt-on. I have the 320mm version (Same rotor diameter as A4) and notice a difference for sure. Braking performance is very subjective though, lots of variables at play.
If nothing else, being aluminum, these calipers are a fraction of the weight of the stock rotors which is a bonus. They're also a rigid caliper (Not floating like the stock calipers.) Although not a monoblock, they're close to it and the performance of that over a floating caliper is indisputable. If you have frequent hard braking, the Q5 caliper will also handle heat better.

Bottom line is that these calipers were designed for the Q5, a much heavier vehicle, with a bigger engine, with more payload and ability to tow so it is a reasonable assumption that the calipers are capable of more braking power and performance.

I'm planning to upgrade to the 345mm version because I finally have 18" winters. I will have my 320mm Q5 version up for sale soon as well as a second set of used 345mm Q5 calipers if anyone is interested.

Are the 320mm Q5 a direct fit? What else would be needed to install them on B7 A4?

Yes, the 320mm are a direct swap for the stock B7 A4 Calipers. They use the exact same stock 320mm rotor. All that’s needed to install them is the appropriate brake lines and wear sensors. I’ll be selling mine with stainless steel Stoptec brake lines and OEM wear sensors if you’re interested.

Hey drew I saw that you were in eurodrivers. Wondering if you are around Calgary. I’m from Airdrie and have been looking for either the 17z from the Touareg or the q5 calipers for an upgrade on my a4

I already have a 345 set up, so I was going to go with that. I do need new front lines, though?

Edit: It is obvious I need front lines bc the q5 calipers don't use a banjo bolt. Axis recommended mkiii lines, but I wonder why q5 lines won't work...too long?

Hi there, I’m through Calgary quite often. I live out in Canmore, I’ll have both my 320mm and 345mm Q5 caliper sets up for sale soon. If you’re interested, shoot me a message and we can connect!

Yes, you will need new front lines, and the Q5 lines will be too long. I think I have an extra set of new MKII Stoptech stainless steel lines in my garage too. You’ll also need wear sensors.

FYI, if anyone is interested in this upgrade and stumbles on this thread, Macan calipers are the same fitment and are about $300 cheaper for the pair.

What size rotors did you put on with those? And you just needed longer brake lines?

You run the stock 345mm b7 S4 rotors. You need longer but different brake lines also. I was told to pick up the set that fit mk2 VWs. Stop tech part no is 950.33011.

hi there. there's 2 types of upgrades. the ecs 345mm disc with brembo 4pod Q5 caliper amd also the standard 320mm q5 brembo 4pod caliper.
the 345mm difficult to get hands on but got the 320 instead. should also be better than the single pod tho.IMG_20180922_082016.jpegIMG_20180921_162854.jpegIMG_20180921_201554.jpeg
