    Difference between S6 and S7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have owned my car for two months now and I am strongly considering trading it in for an S6 or S7 before I pay much more on the car now. I really enjoy my car, but I want something with a bit more potential and a stronger platform. Who knows if I will actually go through with doing this, but it is a possibility for now.

Anyways, the S7 is growing on me. Initially, I did not like the back of the car, but looking at them more, I like it now.

What are the differences between the two? Any performance differences? I know the back-end of the vehicle there are differences, but is that really it; one being a hatchback and the S6 a traditional trunk?

Just want to first say you are making a good decision to pick up this platform! For differences, the S6 is your traditional sedan, 3 people in the back 2 in the front. The S7 however is a bit different, in the back seat it comes with two bucket seats and in the middle of the back seat there are cupholders so it has four bucket seats in total. Everything mechanically is the same on the cars. The S7 is a bit wider with different cosmetics which I prefer over the S6. Oh and you basically have the utility of a pick up truck when you lay the back seats flat. If I were to do it again I would grab the S7 like I did before. Stay away from 2013 in either models tho! Good luck!

Compare the two for exact size differences on Autobytel, I believe the S7 is about 200lbs heavier than the S6 due to the added support of the hatch.

The power plant and drive train are exactly the same between the 2.

    On the S7:
You can fit wider wheels easily
    Only a 4 seater
    Easier to upgrade subwoofer
Even though both are pretty rare cars, the S7 is a little more rare to be seen in the wild.

I'm sure there's more but that's what pops up in my mind. Can't go wrong with either one. It's more down to what style you like more but the S7 does cost more on average.

The biggest factor for me was price. A comparable S7 is usually 5-7k more than a S6. Hence why i went with the S6.

Big facts right here. The price premium for the 7 body style is more apparent when comparing A6 to A7 starting prices, they are about $20k apart!!

This discussion always leads to one place — if you’re power hungry enough to make the jump, skip the s7 and just get a cpo rs7

    +1.

Don't believe I've ever seen a S7 in person, just plenty of S6s and some RS7s.

Ditto just find a lightly used RS7 vs S7...I'm totally biased however.

It really depends on your style preference. As others have noted, the guts of the cars are the same. Personally, when I first saw the A7 look in Europe, before we had the model, it did nothing for me. Similar to how I felt about the Mercedes CLS models. Love 'em or hate 'em. If you like the 7 style, go for it. You can tune the S versions of each car to be close to the RS7 in power for a lot less $$. For me, the 7 series? Do a lot more squats and build up that saggy butt!

S7 body style doesn't work for me. My height doesn't allow me to fit in the back seat at all. No headroom. Went with standard sedan style with the S6.

I would get the S7/RS7, but of course, I'm biased as I love the way the 7 looks. I still remember the first time I saw one. I was like, whoa, what's that? The style just never gets old to my eyes.

For me, personally, the S7 is plenty fast stock; the speed is absolutely exhilarating for the brief moments I can smash that throttle without going to jail, lol. Of course, that is very subjective and I've never driven an RS7 so take that for whatever it's worth. I'm sure my thoughts might change once or if I ever drive an RS7.

You can get a lightly-used RS7 for the price of a new S7, so there's that. Pick your poison base on what you might value more...

A lot of the 2013 models seemed to have teething problems for the new model year.

Of course the turbo fails & oil separator (PCV) fail have happened on some of the newer models, but maybe not as often?

Also the 2013 TCU/ECU software was odd and there was an update for the 2013 models (throttle delay and shift issues).

I’ve had the S6 and now the S7...my only comment to yours is my dream car is a 911 and I’ll never fit in in the back seat but it’ll never stop me from buying one. I prefer the S7 over the S6 because if the style back seat and all. Many more complements on the S7.

Your main choice is what do you prefer cosmetically. Just like women everyone gonna find something they like. I think the 7’s are seriously ugly and weird looking but I also think Angelina Jolie is not attractive. The other parts like 1 less seat are minimal problems unless you need the extra seat for a kid which if you do you might want to think about another car anyway as neither the 6 or 7 is practical for 3 kids.

S6 better for getting kids in and out of backseat, can properly center mount car seat with seatbelt which is safest position. S6 trunk is huge and more useful space without having to put the rear seats down. Tune to stage 2 add DPs, TCU tune, and eurocode front and rear sways and its a super sedan, i like it better than the stock rs7s I drove.

The S7 outsells the S6. I'm not talking about all A6/A7 cars and just the S cars.

S7 has limited headroom, a massive trunk, and demands a price premium. I loved the S7 styling but went with the S6 for headroom and lower cost.
