    Supercharged Badge Installation

Starting this thread because I couldn't find my answer elsewhere:

What have you guys used to mount badges to you car if it didn't come with adhesive? I'm looking at buying a used set of Supercharged badges instead of shelling out $120 for the pair. I'm currently looking at the 3M VHB Tape, but does anyone know what is used on the OEM ones? I'd rather use OEM installation methods, if possible.

Don't know if it's specifically called "VHB", but it's definitely 3M double sided badge/emblem adhesive tape.

The 3M double sided works great as long as you prepare the surfaces first. Only thing I've found is that the OEM badges usually have a thinner version pre-applied than what you would buy in most auto parts stores.

VHB is short for Very High Bond.

As said above, lots of badges come with an adhesive on them already.

I am looking to buy used badges so I don't have to spend the $120 for brand new. They would not come with adhesive, as they have been previously installed.

I used the 3M double sided badge adhesive that I got from my brother in law who does auto body work .Had previously used the same to adhere a spoiler on my Lexus. FYI there is a mounting template available to be printed on the ECS Tuning website .Heaven forbid that you don't put it in the exact correct place

Yes, but if that is not strong enough, the OP will lose the extra 5 HP he gets from installing the SC badges!

You will also need the template to place it correctly on the car.

That's exactly what I was going to say, find a local autobody supply store and purchase the needed section of d.s. tape.

Bringing this post back from the dead.

Im shopping around for 3M vhb adhesive. Im finding that the product comes in some various thicknesses. Ive also read here in some search results, that the product thickness im looking for would be on the thinner side.

Im going to be installing some used supercharged badges. To my knowledge, the back side of the badge, is sunken in a bit from the outer edge of the badge.

So my question to any of you who may be of assistance is, what would the best thickness of VHB tape be for this specific application to achieve the best flush results?

My educated guess would be 1mm (ish) or .04" (ish) thick......without having the badges in my hands quite yet.

    Thanks in advance.
