    Hi All,

    It appears to be that my cats are going bad on this car and Audi is quoting me about $2500 to replace them. (In fact, that might have been labor, not sure)

    Needless to say, does anyone know if I can go aftermarket cats? I’m getting a CEL because of the cats. Car drives perfectly fine outside of this.

    Go to an exhaust shop and see what they quote you. Sounds like you are getting screwed. Might as well upgrade your whole exhaust system for that kind of money.

    The 2 cats thru audiusaparts.com are $711.29 ea. This price is for 2013 A6 3.0T. Just made a guess since you did not indicate year of A6. List price is $883.58 ea. So, $2500 to replace the them is probably reasonable considering the labor rates here in CA. Probably could get 10% off there list price or buy online and have trusted shop remove and replace.

    Just out of curiosity how many miles on your A6?

    What year/miles. Aren’t CATs covered under emissions warranty for an extended period?

    I like where you are headed - There shouldn't be a C7 on the road with rotten cats even in the rust belt of Michigan and Wisconsin..

    Thanks for the information guys. Apologies for leaving out important details, the car is a 2013 and my road warrior with 105k on the clock now.

    Does anyone know how long they are covered under emissions warranty?

    @jazzyjay, PM price?

    Sidenote - I’m also being quoted $800 for two new headlight bulbs, ha

    I believe the emission warranty is for 7/70K miles, were as the federal emissions warranty is for 8/80K. The CA warranty covers more parts than the federal but in either case you are out of warranty.

    TBH I had a similar situation and just installed O2 spacers on my cats. They can also try updating the ECU at the dealer since the updated one has a higher threshold for the actual CEL for catalytic efficiency.

    Any update on this? My passenger side CAT is bad and leaving the loudest exhaust leak near the engine bay and slower acceleration. I have 137k+ on the dash so I want a simple fix by either removing both cats or fixing one.

    Labor alone to lower from engine is about a 6 hour job at $150/hr.

    Let me know why your fix was. Thanks!

    If you go to a knowledgeable indy shop labor should be in the 850 to 950 range. You dont need to drop the engine.
