Would Running E85 All The Time Prevent Intake Carbon Build Up?

So after reading the horror stories and the DIY's, I'm wondering if those of us with Flex Fuel 2.0t's may benefit from running E85 to prevent the carbon nasties associated with direct port injection. I'm at 87k on my 2013 allroad and starting to see signs of decreased fuel economy.

Since the fifth injector isn't tied to a cylinder and resides in the manifold itself just for E85, you think it might work in washing away any buildup and keeping the valves clean??

I got nothing, but I'm intrigued by the idea. It seems plausible that it could help.

Yes that would work. Valves are pretty clean on a car my friend runs nothing but E85 on.

Guess I need to find an E85 station again out here in Vegas. The Rebel stations I used to buy from got acquired by ARCO and ceased E85 distribution. Looks like some of them have brought it back.

Other than two other stations not ARCO affiliated that's a promising sign...

That's really the only major downfall of E85. You could always run water/meth and have the same results.

Unfortunately, no. It only fires a very small amount of fuel during a cold start in extremely cold weather to eliminate problems with starting on ethanol. Other than that, it's not used.

Don't know if E85 will help with carbon deposits, but I've heard that meth injection and a catch can help a lot.

I have no idea about E85 could reduce intake carbon building up or not, but I found car exhaust pipe area is very clean after adding E85 to the tank, so I guess that the intake valves are clean also.

I can’t confidently say it will help with carbon buildup but be careful running E85 all the time.

Depending on the quality of the E85 you find (it’s not all created equal) you can get rust on your injectors from the water content in the E85... they say to always “pickle” your injectors by running 93 or whatever you run once in a while.

True, its always good to put in a tank of 93 every so often.

A lot of people also swear by this product, even the high power E85 GTR cars

I haven't run it in a while since the local Rebel stations that used to carry it got bought out by Arco.

Last night I went by the old station I used to get it at and the pump was still there but prominently displayed "E85 Not Available" on the handle. However, looks like some of the stations are getting it back further south from my location, just don't want to make the drive all the way to the other side of Vegas to get it.

Hi BrewDude - Murphy's express on Criag consistently carries E85.

Murphy's express has the best e85 here in Dallas fort Worth. They are building new stations and I love them. Consistently 80% ethanol, racetrack is in the low 70%, Kroger is close to Murphy's at about 80%

I would call that FAKE NEWS.
Com-on if you have enough water to make stainless injector rust then you car must run super bad or this would mean that Audi engine can run out of water!!!! :) :) :) :)
I open my ex VW R32 engine after driving 100.000 KM exclusively with E85 head was super clean and injector were looking like brand new.

I think it's some internet hoax.

I prefer to be cautionary... besides what’s the harm in running 93 once every 10 fill ups....but to each their own

As long as you drive the car and not let it sit a long time, e85 will be fine

If you plan to let it sit, either fill up a full tank or switch to 93 first
