Replaced Engine Mount, Still Getting Fault Code "Short to Plus" ??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
A little over a month ago when running a scan with VCDS I got a Fault Code indicating a problem with Left Engine Mount, from underneath I could see fluid had leaked from both so ordered a Lemforder P/N 3474001 (OEM: 8R0199381C) and decided to try to replace my self, wasn't that bad of a job and this is what came out, pretty obvious it was way past usefulness..

After having the new mount in for a couple of days I ran another scan with VCDS and still have a Left Engine Mount Fault, see below
5394 - Left Engine Mount Solenoid Valve (N144)
    P1571 00 [039] - Short to Plus
Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 00000001
    Fault Priority: 2
    Fault Frequency: 1
    Mileage: 187963 km
    Date: 2018.07.19
    Time: 19:08:48

    Engine speed: 0.00 /min
    Normed load value: 0.0 %
    Vehicle speed: 0 km/h
    Coolant temperature: 83 °C
    Intake air temperature: 75 °C
    Ambient air pressure: 1000 mbar

I don't have a saved scan from before Engine Mount was replaced but I think it was slightly different, had a "Short to Ground" I think with old mount.

It is crazy that these mounts have solenoids inside, is this an indication the solenoid is stuck open or closed ?

From research the solenoid controls firmness of the mount, in hindsight I should have considered the 034 B8 A4 Mounts.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Over the weekend I got back under the Avant and disconnected the connector to new mount and used VCDS to scan the Engine module, that gives me 2 faults, "Open Circuit" and "Short to Plus" so this Short to Plus has nothing to do with the new mount.

I also measured resistance with my Ohm meter of new mount and old mount, both had 32ohm resistance so again not pointing to a problem with new mount.

It appears a "Short to Plus" is wiring problem where "+" current is being introduced to the circuit that is not expected, a thread in the B6/B7 S4 Forum I found a person had same problem and it was exposed wires in the connector going to the engine mount, I found this after I had car back home so will need to get back to shop I use lift at and dig into the ECU side of the engine mount connector for exposed wires.

For fun I decided to dissect the old mount and have some pictures, like I previously said this mount was shot !

Last weekend I hooked up VCDS and scanned the Engine Module with the L engine mount disconnected from the wiring harness and got (2) Faults
    2 Faults Found:
5390 - Left Engine Mount Solenoid Valve (N144)
    P1573 00 [039] - Open Circuit
Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
    Freeze Frame:

5394 - Left Engine Mount Solenoid Valve (N144)
    P1571 00 [039] - Short to Plus
Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
    Freeze Frame:

I reconnected the engine mount to wiring harness and only get the original fault
    1 Fault Found:
5394 - Left Engine Mount Solenoid Valve (N144)
    P1571 00 [039] - Short to Plus

This is leading me to believe it is in the wiring harness somewhere and I ordered a new connector to splice in when I have time to back trace the wires for a short.

Last night I was able to replace R engine mount, the passenger side is much easier to replace and was also in much better condition but was leaking and the aluminum housing was starting to crack

While on the lift I disconnected L mount and took cover off the wiring harness connector and pulled back cover to inspect the 2 wires, for some reason they were twisted like the connector had be rotated a few times but no apparent damaged wires.
Straightened out, put cover back on and reattached to engine mount connection.
Ran a VCDS scan on engine module and no more "Short to Plus" fault.
I will admit that I can't be 100% certain what made the fault go away, I should have run a Engine module scan prior to replacing R mount and when new one was in to know with more certainty what fixed the fault code
1.) Did the fault go away on it's own, it is an Audi and strange things happen ?
2.) Did replacing R mount influence L Mount
3.) Is there a problem with wiring harness/connector for L mount

After replacing the mounts I can say there is improvement with the 6 Speed auto shifting and front end of car feels a lot tighter over bumps. Also ever since I got this car a few months ago there is a big shake of engine when you start the car, now that is completely gone.

Well worth the expense and time to replace these worn mounts.

That engine mount is really in very bad shape.
Maybe it's broken due to the other one's previous bad condition.
