Like the title says, I have a crack in my windshield, hoping it can be repaired over a replacement, just seeing if anyone has any local suggestions, or suggestions over safelite. Thanks.

Don’t let other experiences discourage you. I had a windshield replaced thru safelite about 2 months ago. I requested for a factory windshield which they provided , they came to my house and the technician did an amazing job. He protected the exterior and interior and was done in about 45 mins.

I just had my windshield replaced by Safelite, forth time overall. The tech was great and even accepted my request to do a little extra work to get the glass to set deeper. The first time I dealt with them was the worst experience, and it was primarily their glass supplier that caused the issues. They had to order 4 aftermarkets that were all defective, only one installed, then got OEM glass. Since then I've had no issues with the process at all in 2 different locations.

This was a windshield I removed from a prior installation from safelite. Customer had receipt in glove box that he showed me. This vehicle was done less then 18 months prior to me. The scratch's the tech did during removal was not addressed properly with primers caused the rust conditions. Once rust has developed. There is no way to stop. Its like cancer. I used chemicals to refinish the pinchweld. But it will become rusty in due time. You only get to do the proper replacement "ONCE"

I have a crack in mine which they tried to but could not fix. Not really a recommendation for or against, just my experience.

Thanks for all the replies. Eurotech Motorsports messaged me that they do windshields. I've got work done by them before so I'll just end up taking the trip out there at somepoint.

But thanks again, the replies hopefully helped others as well.

A repair is simply to prevent it from spreading so you don’t have to replace. It’s not going to disappear completely. It’s explained to every customer but some choose to ignore that part. That’s why you have complaints in the review pages.

I’m a safelite tech but I’m in queens, if you was closer I can take care of things for you. Just as long as it’s like a 1-2in hit. You can’t repair long cracks.

Seeing a receipt doesn’t mean it was that tech. Unless you know for a fact that glass was never changed prior.
Plus a year and a half even in ny weather wouldn’t produce that much rust.

DOT #65 Glass SGC = Slavelite Glass Corp.
Car is NJ car. Alot of salt used in NJ.
Customer stated to me that he called his insurance company that time (Geico). You know that all Geico work is done by SGC. There was no notation of rust in comment area of the receipt. You now if there is even a spec of rust anywhere. the Safelite will refuse to do the work and pass on it. Sorry but my 25 years of experience says that 18 months will allow this type of rust to form depending on severity of scratch's on the pinchweld and lack of use of primers and salt and water intrusions

Safelite CSR quote's if the damage can be covered by a dollar bill. It can be repaired .

My repair machine can only do a 2 inch crack @ the most. And this is with thin resin. I Believe SGC endorses the capillary procedure to do those 6 inch cracks

Vehicle inspection information doesn’t show up on the receipt.

And we don’t even use 65 glass anymore. It’s been stopped for years. The last of it gets sold wholesale

Dude your sole purpose anytime someone mentions glass on here is to bash safelite. I don’t care how many years you have in.
There are 1000’s of glass techs everyone isn’t good no matter what company.

Yes that’s possible but from my experience it’s pointless to do because the customer really isn’t going to like the outcome. In those cases I’d rather replace and give them great customer satisfaction the first time.

My job is not to bash. But to inform. I didnt make up that pissed of customer website. It was made bought up to my attention and the reviews are not mine. I just happen to be knowledgeable of the company you work for. I worked there for 20+ years myself. So please educate yourself on the subject that you say I always bash. I always tell the truth about safelite. DOT # 65 glass is still floating in some of the safelite warehouses.

Just like your giving your OPINION. Its just that. Looking corny. Naa. Corny is just another opinion. Enjoy working for them. I learned many things from them to make my company successful. Hopefully others will do the same.

I have had noting but terrible experiences with Safelite, in two different states (MA & NY). Around here, Hudson Valley Auto Glass is the bee's knees.

You yourself know that a customer will never be happy when all they have is misinformation. For example that person mentioned glass quality yet probably thought he was going to get oem glass. And probably got an OE equivalent that just didn’t have a logo.
The reviews sections are filled with customer complaints over petty issues for countless companies.
But like I said before you can’t base your opinion of a tech on to the company as a whole.

Hey. I used Safelite before in the past. Be clear with them that you want the OEM glass, not whatever their generic version is. If you look in the bottom corner of your windows you should see the manufacturer.

Not sure if you have glass coverage on your insurance policy ( that's how I used Safelite).

If you are going through insurance be sure they understand the requirements for OEM glass too and don't let them con you into the Safelite brand.

For context - my; nitial replacement was with the generic and there was something off with the glass, there was some sort of splotching inside the glass that would catch light at night and create terrible glare that made it impossible to see through.
I googled it and saw that others had similar experience (and some didn't) and the recommended solution was to ask for the OEM glass.

Just a tidbit of information to add to that.
Insurance companies cover you for OEM glass for the first 2yrs of the vehicles life. Meaning if you own a 2018 then within yrs 18-19 you’ll get OEM. After that the vehicle has depreciated and they don’t want to pay extra just for a logo, so they want you to pay the difference.
