Changing Spark Plugs on the 8V RS3

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I decided to change my plugs for use with the E85 map. I didn't see too much info on the net for changing plugs on our new motor. I've had the old 5 cylinder from my ttrs but this truly is a different animal! The connectors Audi uses in the ignition system are gangsta lol. Other than that, not too bad for the rest of the install. Plugs came pregapped to .025" and torqued the plugs to 30Nm.

Anyone change plugs on your tuned rides?

I changed mine as well. Looked, Analyzed and proceded done in a few min. Only changed it because i thought i was going one step colder but it had the same plug as the one i was replacing lol. No info on these engines yet lol not even on ECS tuning under spark plugs. Not even a part number.

Those are the $200 dollar plugs you bought?

Those plugs look pretty filthy, is that normal?

Do cars which are broken in during the first 5-10k miles for eg benefit from swapping out the plugs?

And to think that APR recommends to change them out every 10-15k miles. Crazy! Pay to Play big time lol

They’ve been involved in a few million explosions, what do you think they would look like

I changed out my OEMs for those NGK 9's like two weekends ago.
    Love them.
I gapped mine to 0.027" and they run like a champ.
    Why 0.027? A tuner suggested 0.026-0.028.
APR suggestsled a tighter gap than 0.027, but they are the same people who suggested other plugs over these at first, which was not bright.
I used these on the MK7 Golf R, even on a stock tune, and posted positive results.
NGP confirmed these were the cats meow and good even on a stock R, that they had installed many times.
APR bought Stasis, and screwed all those stasis audi people and audi out (of warranty claims) when shutting them down after purchase, just another reason why I never listen to them..

Cold not so smooth idle, to very smooth cold idle and more a lil more responsive overall.
Went from occasional misfire counts, to none to date.

I was selling Stasis and when Revo was bought out by them, but I posted truth, why else does a company shut down and not file bankruptcy? Non-disclosure buy out? And, that a select organization who dealt with them learned of the truth? Hoping you guys will be one dealer shorter here soon, lol.

I tried a 9 plug but feel an 8 might be better in the winter

For those that have tuned their cars, have you tried any other plugs other than the 43$ NKGs?

I think upgraded plugs are only required if you run stage 1+ e85

Bringing this thread back from the dead - I just got a new set of the Unitronic recommended plugs for cars running e85. I have worked on tons of cars in the past, but for the Audi I've only done the most simple things like the intake and the midpipes. I had the shop at 034 Motorsport do the spark plugs 12k miles ago when I made the switch to ethanol, but I don't take my cars there anymore since they divorced from 034 itself.

I feel like I should be able to change the plugs myself. Is there a more detailed how-to for this relatively easy do-it-yourself project?

Changing Spark Plugs on the 8V RS3

Spark plugs for the 2.5 are super simple. There are 3 10mm nuts along the top of the coil packs holding a wiring bracket. You have to unplug the fuel rail sensor and push it out of the way and then 1 other sensor. After that, all you do is remove the 5 10mm bolts that hold the individual coil packs down, pull the coil packs, and then remove the plugs. When installing them, torque them down to 35nm/25.7ft-lbs and put everything back together. Takes about 15-20 minutes. That being said, I run denso plugs myself. I’ve heard of people way too many people having the tips break off and tank the motor.
