    SQ5 battery replacement

My car is at the dealer getting it's 35,000 mile service and they said the battery is due for replacement soon. They scanned the car wth something and this is what it's telling them. Can I swap the battery myself, or does something need to be coded? I have Carista but no VCDS. Battery seems like it would be easy to swap since it;s in the trunk, I just wasnt sure about programming. Dealer quoted me $330 for a new battery. I figured I can do it myself for 1/2 of that. My SQ5 is a 2015 with 36,000 miles.

Has it ever drained/died? That's soon... I only replaced my original battery last year, and I didn't even need too

I highly recommend getting a VCDS or borrowing one. Or meeting with an Audiziner and play with their vag

You can scan the battery health to make an informed decision. Battery ran me $170 and it was installed and programmed 10 minutes later. You need to pair the new one with the car.

I needed mine around the same time and did it at the dealer due to the resets it needed.

I just had the dealer do it since it was already there. Thanks for the replies.

What was the dealer cost of the battery alone (no labor)? I’m at 2.5 years (~43k miles) and living in Florida that’s a typical lifespan for a battery...My wife’s Sienna went through 3 batteries in the 8 years we had it.

My AGM batteries on my RS4 lasted 8 years. I have not needed to use a VAG-COM anytime I disconnected it

Do they no longer cover batteries under warranty? Not even a pro ration?

    It's for replacement not disconnecting.

My car does not have a warranty, but since a battery is a wear item I doubt it. My car has a rebuilt title.

$330 and it can't take more than 30 minutes for them to swap it. I'm guessing the breakdown was about $200 for the battery and the rest was labor.
    That's just insane.

What did they charge for labor?

I just had mine replaced at a Interstate store, the guys were dopes and had no idea where the battery was located, quoted me for the wrong battery but in the end honored the $165 price once it was finished. Anyways, I am positive they didn't code the battery to my system but I haven't had any trouble in over a year. I monitor the battery charge through my Carista and it's been reporting back perfectly fine.

From what I understand the battery coding is supposed to tell the charging system how much to charge it, but if you match the OEM battery I don't know that it's needed IMO. I could be wrong but it's been fine for the past year.

There is no difference in disconnecting the existing battery and replacing one. The car electronics reacts the same. As I said mine did not need to have a VAG-COM
