2011 S5 manual difficult to put in gear

Okay, so over the past few months I’ve been struggling with my 2011 S5’s transmission. Heat is a major factor here, but it’s getting more and more difficult to put it into gear, especially 1st and 2nd, and if the engine is on...it won’t go into reverse at all regardless of how hard I try to slam it in. If I turn the engine off, it goes into gear just fine with no resistance at all...as the engine heats up or if it’s a hot day, this problem is intensified. I also noticed that if I’m on flat road, put the car in gear, keep the clutch pushed in (all the way in, foot to the floor)...the car will creep forward as if I had partially let the clutch petal put...I take the car out of gear and into neutral and the creep forward stops

My Audi’s not stock, I have a stage 3 apr kit, a southbend clutch (original clutch couldn’t handle the toque after we put the apr kit on)

Any ideas what’s happening here? I’ve taken it into the shop, and the guy just wants to replace the entire clutch / flywheel (he doesn’t want to do the work to see what the problem is and I don’t completely trust him) I really and truly would appreciate any leads on the issue.

Hmm, how many miles on it? And in the new clutch setup? Also it can’t be a hydraulic issue like master or slave cylinder. But to assume it’s the clutch is very normal.

just over 75k miles, the clutch was installed at about 15k miles. I had a mechanic who installed the clutch way back then, look at the car again roughly a year or 2 ago, and he specifically noted that "The clutch had a ton of life left in it" and that it felt great.

If you don't mind I'm going to tag along on this. I was literally coming to this section to post the same thing.

I'm having the exact same symptoms, have a similar setup(6MT 2010 A4 with spec stage 2+ and a motor twisting 400+ at the crank), and have tried a few things to remedy the issue.

I've replaced the master and slave (master was leaking fluid and slave bleed screw seized and broke). I've bled using a pressure bleeder 4 times now. I'm still experiencing the same issues.

I hope someone chimes in for both of us!

That’s a lot of miles though. And a lot can change in 2 years. It’s not a complex system. Either hydraulic or mechanical fault. Hydraulic being the master/slave cylinders. Or mechanical being the actual clutch disk!

After taking my car to a trusted shop, he was able to quickly diagnose a failed pressure plate and likely a failed DMF. Do you feel vibration in the pedal when stationary and pressing in about 1"? That's what he recognized as the failed pressure plate.

Hopefully that helps your situation. It's not great news unfortunately.

    Sorry to hear this guys.

@swirth123: Sounds like your clutch is not fully disengaging so it could be a hydraulic issue or a mechanical failure. It's good to check for a hydraulic issue first: check how much the slave piston moves (if possible) when the clutch pedal is fully pressed/compare with a known good car, bleed the system, change cylinders if/as needed.

@cksigmapi: Ops... well, it's a great chance to upgrade :)
